  1. Had the rain continued it would have washed away the living muchless the dead its just the work of natural disasters so what is the big deal, sometimes you all have news that’s just no news just talk for talking sake .there are people house that got flooded so the owners got to relocate too or they just have to do the necessary adjustments bla, blah blah 🤔

  2. That is part of nature, just a few years ago on grand bahamas island after a hurricane, those countries have a type of rocky soil that when dug, if the debris that is removed from the hole is wet and leave to dry, it turns into similarity with concrete, so the holes doesn’t allow water to drain through porous soil, so a funeral had just taken place before a hurricane that flooded the island, and the coffins become bouyant and float across on the roadway, one specific coffin of a ladies husband stuck across the gate of it’s former property, the wife became so shocked she suffered a heart attack and died.
The situation here in Antigua is a bad location chosen and excessively small in size , but life will move on pass headly incompetent politicians that want to make their own personal name or get commission from these projects.

  3. I keep reading the comments and almost all are bashing people who highlight the flooding of the cemetery. Newsflash! It is news, when floding takes place in other Caribbean countries doesn’t it usually make the news. You people sick my stomach.
Politics is a part of everything we do here, how we eat, how we live even how we shit, thanks to the Cult known as ABLP so learn to love it

  4. I believe in truthfulness. We put politics in everything and not what is right and wrong. There is no reason why we cannot have a good cemetery in the same tranquility park. With proper engineering a first class drainage system can be constructed. We are badly in need of this cemetery and there is no reason to stop burying there. There will not be many days like yesterday.
This is my take on the tranquility park ceremony and what happened
Yesterday. We had an unprecedented amount of rain yesterday. The government should have postponed all funerals, everywhere yesterday. Instead a burial was conducted alongside the graves that had fallen. That was a stupid decision. Didn’t you expect that the people that were in attendance were going to take pictures, videos and post them on social media. It was explained that the intention is to have flat graves and in a short while re-grassed, which was understandable. I also anticipated that if heavy rains they were going to fall, settle and compact. This is my take away. It is better to build the graves the old time way and allow them to fall or compact them after yourself. So it is better to go a few feet higher. This is no rocket science.
Yesterday when I saw that funeral taking place, I said to myself that is going to be disaster. The earth was overly saturated and the backhoe driving on the saturated surface was down right silly.
I have been to a funerals there during the dry days and honestly I had given them an A plus. So let’s be patient and allow them them to sort things out properly.

  5. The government knew that was a flood zone before picking that spot for a cemetery. There was much discussion. Just don’t understand why they still used that site. Poor planning.

  6. @norisaguy2 the public cemetery don’t flood so wats ur point I see alot of jacka$$ in anu cleary dis is a problem so wen heavy rain come corps all over the place dumd ass

  7. Today on the big issues Mr. Lionel Michael said exactly the same thing, that I said about. I don’t think everyone knows that he is not a supporter of the Gaston Browne Administration. However, he put professionalism over politics. He clearly stated that from the scientific research during the time that he was Chief Health Inspector that the new cemetery got a passing grade. He said that the some forty acres were allocated and he doesn’t have any problem with the cemetery to continue at that location.
He basically said the same thing as my earlier post. That the graves fell because in the first place they were too flat and with the amount of rain that fell on Friday it led to the water settling. He continued that they should resort to the old method of rise graves. Then allow them a longer period to settle before flattening and grassing. He also commented on the type of soil they are using is also a factor, which is also true. Usually the soil that is dug up from the excavation of the grave is reused. At the Tranquility Park they import soil from the Bendals, Body Pond area , which is a more fertile and sandy loam soil. This means that it will settle much quicker and allow for grassing. With the excessive amount of rain on Thursday night/Friday morning and the flatness of the graves , what happened was expected.
So short term solutions return to the high rising graves and allow adequate time for settlement, if you do not have the capability to compact settlement yourself. The backhoe can be used to press and level our if it is okay to remove the flowers immediately after and put back. Since the family members might visit, shortly after.
Long term is what is more important- I gather that although we were waiting all this time to get this area available, that no proper planning were done. The roads are poorly constructed. There is no access planned for the equipment to drive from the road to the grave – so the edge of the road have started breaking off. The center area is circled by roads. There is no drain pipe below the roads , hence the roads form a barrier and prevent the water from flowing, naturally from east to west , which is the slope of the land. So with some proper engineering done, this cemetery should be good long term as well.
The young lady that is managing the cemetery, seems hard working. She has been given a task that I am not Jealous to have, since the politics surrounding this project is very high.
Again it was a poor decision to have a funeral there on Friday after all that rain that fell before, and the conditions of the graves in the picture. Which is a simple problem that the workers could have rectified privately . You exposed yourself to these unnecessary criticism.
