
Fire breaks out at Cooks Landfill
Emergency crews are working to contain a large fire at the Cooks Landfill after flames broke out on Friday evening.
The blaze reportedly started shortly after 19:00 in the main section of the landfill. The cause is not yet known.
Teams from the Fire Department are leading the response, supported by the National Solid Waste Management Authority, the Public Works Department and the National Office of Disaster Services.
Videos circulating from the area show flames spreading across a wide expanse of the site.
Officials have not yet said whether any injuries have been reported.

After the chemical spill now this…. This island really needs to get it’s act together. The incompetence here is unbelievable.
People doesn’t know methane gas is produced from the organic decomposition of garbage? and this particular gas is highly flammable? that is common risk on those type of sites.
What people ignore also is burning that gas is better for the atmosphere than release it without burning. CO2 is by far better than methane. Let the fire burn all methane as possible.
