Denicia Martin of Bethesda has been charged with five offences following an altercation with a female police officer on Long Street.
The charges, stemming from a March 16 incident, include disorderly conduct, resisting arrest, failing to comply with a lawful police direction, and using indecent and abusive language.
The matter drew public attention after video of the encounter circulated online.
Martin appeared before Chief Magistrate Ngaio Emanuel and was granted bail of $4,500, with $1,000 cash and two sureties.
She must report to the Gray’s Farm Police Station three times weekly and surrender her passport.
The case is adjourned to May 20.

Yes she was charge. The security that lifted his hand to slap the lady. Who give him that right.. he he push her to the ground too.what his charger he have no authority. This is why I argue about how dunce the police is. I am demanding for every police to get legal training at the level of attorneys in specific area of law that includes criminal procedure, tort, evidence, administrative law, contract law (to know when it is a police matter or not), constitutional law, criminal law. Then they must have lessons in deescalation and other social sciences to understand how to behave.
A lot of times all you need to do is to give a ticket and avoid further interaction with a person to ensure the matter doesn’t escalate.
The idiot security guard alao entered into the matter when no just reason existed, the police wasn’t being overpowered (I do believe in civilian helping the police in situations where police are being overpowered and it is justified, it wasn’t in this case).
Now that idiot, security guard, is at risk of being charged with battery, assault, false imprisonment, etcetera. But the Antigua and Barbuda police are so dumb that their response will be, no such law exist in Antigua and Barbuda.
And the sad thing is, there are no competent person that exist to keep officers in line and accountable. I am telling you, if any police officer related to me diaplay any such conduct, I care if you are my father or uncle, I will disown you and watch you rot in prison if the evidence showed you are a tyrant.
I am going to say again, all officers must carry their ticket book and must ne wearing a body camera.
It’s very simple, just comply with law enforcement instructions but if you choose to f**k around, you will find out (i.e. you will be dealt with), whether you interact with police like that in the US, UK, Germany, Australia, Japan, Jamaica or little Antigua.

That officer should have just taken down the taxi plate number and call who she had to call those higher in authority and dealt with the matter. Now seen here you as police officer drawing a taxi driver out of her transport while still moving….. what if you had gotten ran over? We saw what was taking place, but did we hear what was said? Were we privy to the orders given? An officer gives you a directive, don’t you comply? We are too combative sometimes, and it’s not always a good thing.

The police have the right to detain for failure to comply with lawful orders. In a situation like this nobody is going to be pleased but I think overall, the officer did well. Even towards the end, when the lady was still fighting the officer wasn’t kicking and slapping her like some would have been doing.

None of the people who commented heard a word that was said so how can you judge whether or not the officer overstepped her bounds. The question I have is how did the security guard got involved. If the officer gave a legal order the lady should have complied. The court will resolve that
