Residents and tourists in New Judges Hill are raising alarms over the increasingly hazardous road conditions in the area, which they claim have become a serious safety risk.

Despite numerous appeals to local authorities, including direct communications with officials, no substantial action has been taken to address the issue.

Watch as a resident of the area outline more of their concern:

The stretch of road in question, located near the intersection opposite Cedar Valley, has been plagued by significant deterioration.

Deep potholes, eroded edges, and poor drainage have turned the road into a treacherous passage, particularly for those unfamiliar with the area.

The danger is amplified by the fact that many tourists, relying on GPS navigation, frequently use this route.

Tracy Merrick, a resident of New Judges Hill whose family has invested in the local economy as returning nationals, expressed her deep concern over the state of the road. “This isn’t just about inconvenience; it’s a life-threatening situation,” said Merrick. “We’ve seen numerous instances where tourists get stuck, and the risk of a serious accident is very real. The road needs major repairs, and it needs them urgently.”

Efforts to bring attention to the problem have included multiple attempts to contact government representatives. Merrick’s family has been in touch with Mr. King, a local official, who acknowledged the issue and initially agreed to a site visit. However, as of the last communication, no confirmation has been received, leaving residents anxious and uncertain about when or if the necessary repairs will be made.

The road’s condition not only poses a direct threat to drivers but also impacts the broader community. Local businesses, dependent on tourist traffic, fear that the ongoing neglect could deter visitors, further harming the local economy. Additionally, the lack of adequate road maintenance is seen as a failure to ensure basic infrastructure safety, a concern that resonates with both residents and visitors alike.

As the situation remains unresolved, residents of New Judges Hill are calling on the government to take immediate and decisive action. “We need the authorities to conduct a thorough assessment of the road and begin repairs as soon as possible,” Merrick urged. “The safety of everyone who travels this road should be a priority, and we’re hoping that by raising our voices, we can bring about the change that’s desperately needed.”

The community’s plea is clear: the road conditions in New Judges Hill are not just an inconvenience—they are a ticking time bomb. The hope is that with increased media attention, the necessary steps will be taken to protect those who live in and visit this part of Antigua.

  1. Who you bought the land from? The Developer has a responsibility to put in infrastructure before the land was sold. If the Government wasn’t the Developer of the area then it’s not the Government’s responsibility to bring in roads now.

  2. Welcome to roads in Antigua. I feel your pain but we have all invested and our roads are just as bad if not worse. I live in Lightfoot and can’t get any relief. Good luck.

  3. A road without drains is not going to last long as there is a water course that is quite noticeable in the video. Worse yet, with that elevation, the deterioration of any road that you install without proper drainage at that location will be even faster than on a flat road. So, be careful what you ask for!

  4. they don’t have millions to fix the roads and drains, but if it was Calvin Ayre or Barrett yourself see how quick that would fix

  5. You lucky you have road to walk on, the dead end I’m living by, looks like a forest just you come off the steps. And the damage to the drainage cause the residents washing water etc to run down and be exactly where you have to walk. Not forgetting school children have to walk in the same location to get home after school. It’s just Ridiculous. When the rain fall, you can’t leave your house because the road is a river because all the water is rushing down . Like I gonna have to get fa me phone and record too and send into the abs

  6. Go girl, it is the government’s responsibility to maintain public roads, do not listen to anyone who says otherwise. You literally have to do things like this to bring attention to problems to maybe get a solution.

  7. Bleach your skin and when you call into any-lazy- government officials or their minions ” talking with a foreign language” prefer THE ONE WHO DRINK TEA AND EAT PIE AT 3 O’CLOCK. you will see this mongrels despicable piece of trash human beign..acting right straight.

  8. @ I’m Blue

They don’t have millions to fix the roads and drains but they sure as f$@k have millions to give “FREE” concert right.

Keep voting this govt in like a bunch of loyal slaves. This govt anything but loyal to you.

  9. @Loyal Slaves for free concerts & I’m Blue… Have the roads here ever been good? Were they smooth and perfect like a baby’s bottom when the UPP were running the country for ten years?

Both red and blue, past and present governments have neglected the roads by not investing enough money into them. I wouldn’t be surprised if our Chinese friends have made a sales pitch to the government about a national roadbuilding project. At least they would engineer and build them correctly so that they would last far longer than ever before.

  10. There are a lot of roads that needs to be fixed. I live on a dirt road. Where I live they came to the top of the road and stop. When it rains there is a mini river running through it. You are not alone

  12. @Iman,how asanine are your comments? You mean people can arbitrarily develop an area WITHOUT approval from some government agency. CHAPA,for instance.
How Gaston Browne are your comments! Blame everyone else when clearly, it is the government’s responsibility . What a joke this government is!

  13. If main roads are a complete course of craters what makes you believe a side road would be fixed? I’ve said it before, if we all, and I mean ALL vehicle owners were to stop paying transport board until the roads are fixed they would have no choice but to repair them. Aren’t those annual fees for the exact purpose of maintaining roads??

  14. The hike in abst, social security, medical benefits, education levy, Customs duties and vehicle licensing is to help the govenment live lavishly. while our pay is to pay bills and buy expensive food which is also taxed, they don’t want us to have any spending power. look at our minimum wage it’s ridiculous. also hearing the Union want to raise the dues for hotel staff so we are doomed in this country.
