Antigua and Barbuda Labour Party (ABLP) candidate Randy Baltimore said the party is “strong and ready” in St. Philip’s North after being formally nominated Wednesday to contest the March 16 by-election.

Baltimore, a former principal customs officer who resigned last week to run, was declared duly nominated at the Nelvie N. Gore Primary School in Willikies after submitting the required proposer, seconder and eight supporting electors, along with the statutory deposit .

“Very happy, very happy to be nominated for the Antigua and Barbuda Labour Party,” Baltimore said in an interview with state media shortly after the process concluded. “And I’m very happy to see the support coming out to their nomination day. This means that the Labour Party in this constituency is strong and ready.”

The by-election was triggered by the retirement of long-serving MP Sir Robin Yearwood after five decades in Parliament. Baltimore said he intends to build on that legacy.

“With Sir Robin passing the torch, it is my philosophy to continue and to build on that foundation going forward,” he said.

Asked whether he believes he has done enough groundwork to secure victory, Baltimore responded, “Yes, yes, we have done the work. We continue to do the work. And on March 16th, we will become the victor for the Antigua and Barbuda Labour Party within the constituency of St. Philip’s North.”

Baltimore is facing United Progressive Party candidate Alex Browne, who lost the seat in the 2023 general election by fewer than 100 votes.

“I’m connected with the people,” Baltimore said when asked what sets him apart. “My commitment, my work, my work has been showing for a number of years, even before politics. And it is very important that I go forward in that same attitude.”

He added, “Within the constituency, there are many initiatives that I have put on. So the people of St. Philip’s North know me. They’re connected to me.”

Baltimore identified infrastructure, education and health as his priority areas.

“Well, most importantly, infrastructure. Infrastructure, education, and health,” he said. “I intend to continue with the lobbying with the government to have continuous road work, continuous infrastructure.”

He pointed to previous initiatives, including a health fair and a homework programme, and pledged to seek more scholarships for constituents.

Urging voters to prepare for the poll, Baltimore said, “The most important thing right now is to pick up your cards. Get your cards renewed. Voting for Randy Baltimore is voting for a new era, a new life, a new vision within the Antigua and Barbuda Labour Party and within St. Philip’s North.”

He also signaled plans to expand outreach to elderly residents, saying he would pursue “more initiatives for the elderly so that they will feel more embraced within our community.”

Baltimore was accompanied by party supporters, including Cabinet ministers, as well as family members. His wife, Nikisha Baltimore, described her role as offering encouragement, while his mother said she was “very, very proud.”

Campaigning is expected to intensify in the coming weeks ahead of the March 16 vote.

  1. RALLYING CALL #1

This is a heartfelt plea to the constituents of St Phillip’s North.

The ABLP are pulling out all their political stunts (as usual) before this very important by-election. But ask yourself these salient questions. How were things going for you whilst living in the area under Robin Yearwood before Randy Baltimore’s team unconvincing tactics for your votes?

Were you regular supplied with running water into your homes?

Did Yearwood respond to you with your concerns?

How about power outages, were there many?

How are the roads in and around where you live? Are they roadworthy?

Did the ABLP give or hand out their contact cards/or telephone numbers prior to this by-election?

If the answers to all the above is in the negative, then please consider not voting for the ABLP’S Randy Baltimore on the 13th of March.

    RALLYING #2 SOON COME … 😉

  2. Randy if you call Labour Strong after what transpired under Robin and your watch, you really take us for fools. St. Philip’s North Constituency should be second to none as far as development is concerned. This only demonstrates how backward in time you are. We can’t wait to usher in the DAWN OF A NEW DAY with ALEX BROWNE leading the charge

  3. What I can certainly acknowledge of robin 50 years of domination of the people and st Phillips north constituency is robin building his personal institutional financial capacity, he has grown rich owning all the sea fronts lands and multiple hotels and supermarket, robin ostensibly acquired so much wealth that he could have paid a settlement of $15 million UK currency to his late wife . Presently as we speak! Robing is able to pay all extant st Phillips north constituents $3 million USD per person alive today, or about $500,000.00 ECD to the entire population of Antigua and Barbuda and still strive, that’s how wealthy he had become while the villagers stayed poor throughout that time as his reign crosses generations. All the people like the Baltimore’s was dispossessed of their lands from the agrarian era including randy and Alex grand parents, randy is a good young man that is conflating robin piracy of the community land resources as success, but if he looks closer he will realized we are been fenced out and alienated from the coastal areas, if we wanted to put a fishery complex for the young burgeoning fisher folks, we may have to buy that land from robin or his friends. I think the inexperience of randy to politics or ideology will not allow him to fully empathize with the people aspirations oblivious to robin yearwood in his 50 years reign , where he never gave a scholarship or health assistance from none of his businesses. The onliest way out is to move away from that ALP entitlement to power syndrome and elect someone outside that political ideology of continuing robin legacy and elect Alex Brown the UPP representative for a change, he will be the impetus to drive Gaston to do better for the country, because as it stands if Alex is elected and any of his parliamentary colleagues on the ALP side steps out by any means, the ALP would be out of power, they were held together by Anthony smith betrayal. We need to get back to credibility of obtaining a USA visa and free travel to canada, and these organization won’t take Antigua and Barbuda seriously with the same set of personality and organization like ALP and Gaston in power, a change is needed and it starts by electing Alex Brown.

  4. ELDREAD, I CONCUR ALEX. ALL THE. WAY ON BY- ELECTION. DAY SORRY RANDY IT’S NOT PERSONAL. IT’S ABOUT. LOVE. OF. COUNTRY
