Architect Fausto Fattarelli Knighted for Exemplary Contribution to National Development
Architect Fausto Fattarelli has been appointed Commander of the Most Distinguished Order of the Nation (CN) for his exemplary service in the fields of economic and urban development, recognizing nearly four decades of architectural innovation and dedication to nation-building.
The honor was bestowed during the National Awards Ceremony at the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium as part of Antigua and Barbuda’s 44th Independence celebrations .
According to the official citation, Fattarelli—an Italian-born but naturalized citizen of Antigua and Barbuda—is celebrated for his “remarkable contribution to national development through the art and science of architecture.” Since his arrival in 1986, he has distinguished himself as a “visionary designer and builder whose work has enhanced the beauty and resilience of our nation’s built environment.”
Among his notable achievements is the design of Heritage Quay, hailed in the citation as “a national landmark” that has withstood hurricanes, earthquakes, and the passage of time without structural flaw. The building, the citation stated, symbolizes “both durability and ingenuity.”
Fattarelli’s architectural footprint extends across the twin-island state, from Jolly Harbour and Long Island to Galley Bay Heights and other major communities. His work “harmoniously unites elegance with environmental consciousness,” employing indigenous materials and sustainable methods long before they became global priorities.
The citation credited Fattarelli’s designs with contributing not only to Antigua and Barbuda’s aesthetic landscape but also to its economic progress, tourism development, and urban resilience.
In recognition of his “visionary design, environmental foresight, and decades of service to national progress,” the government conferred upon him one of the nation’s highest honors, marking him as an enduring figure in Antigua and Barbuda’s architectural and developmental legacy.
