The V.C. Bird International Airport marked the start of Antigua and Barbuda’s Independence weekend with its ninth annual food fair on Friday, celebrating local cuisine and community spirit.
Organised by the Antigua and Barbuda Airport Authority (ABAA), the event has become a fixture since its launch in 2016, bringing together airport staff, stakeholders, and the public to share in the national pride.
ABAA Commercial Manager Geneva George said the fair embodies unity within the airport community.
“It’s our way of expressing independence at the airport and fostering camaraderie,” she said.
Stalls decorated in national colours offered traditional dishes such as ducana, saltfish, fungee, and pepperpot, along with local sweets and drinks. Travellers, staff, and visitors joined in the celebration, which also served as a cultural welcome for passengers arriving for the holiday weekend.
As Antigua and Barbuda approaches its 44th Independence anniversary, the event once again showcased the airport’s role in promoting the nation’s culture and pride.
