Venezuela’s attorney general accuses US of endangering President Maduro after Caracas strikes

Venezuela’s attorney general has accused the United States of endangering President Nicolás Maduro and his wife, following reports of overnight military strikes in the capital, Caracas.

Tarek William Saab said Washington would be held responsible for the safety of Mr Maduro and First Lady Cilia Flores, claiming their whereabouts were unclear. Speaking on state television early on Saturday, he described the situation as a “kidnapping” and urged the United Nations and international human rights groups to intervene.

Mr Saab drew parallels with the brief detention of former president Hugo Chávez during the failed 2002 coup, calling it a defining moment in Venezuela’s history. He said the comparison highlighted the seriousness of the current situation and the need to confirm Mr Maduro’s safety. Vice President Delcy Rodríguez has said his condition remains uncertain.

The attorney general instructed prosecutors to document what he described as human rights violations linked to the alleged US operation. He criticised international organisations for what he called their silence.

Venezuela’s government said explosions were reported at several locations in Caracas early on Saturday, with low-flying aircraft seen over the city. It described the incident as a US “imperialist attack” on civilian and military infrastructure. The United States has not commented.

  2. They are asking other countries to stand up for them and speak out against the US, but when they were going up against Guyana with little to no military backends and was ask to stand down who were they listening to then? So why must anyone run to they rescue smh 🙄.. they had strength for Guyana now let them use that strength to fight the US…

  3. @Mike.
    Preach sir, preach.
The Carribean hypocrisy has come back to bite them in the rear end.

” Zone of peace” my backside. Where were they, huh?

I was in Guyana on a few occasions in the pass few years, so I directly know that this country has nothing to fight with. They are just a country trying to bring their people out of years of poverty.
But hey, what goes around comes around.

We may disagree with politics on both sides, but any leader who kills and jail his own people for simply speaking, has to go.

  4. For the rest of history, it will be shown that ABLP was on the side of Maduro (who persecuted political rivals, involve in drug trafficking, and threatened and killed neighbors (country) and members of Caricom).

Not once have I heard ABLP PM Gaston Brown or ABLP Foreign Affairs Minister, Chet Green, or ABLP Attorney General Steadroy Cutie Benjamin went public and condemn Maduro for his tyranny, murder, dictatorship, drug smuggling or any wrong he did but they attack democratic countries and members of Caricom.

This ABLP must go, they are a threat to the United Islands of Antigua and Barbuda national security and foreign relationships.

UPP is also highly incompetent for not using these grave errors and incompetence of ABLP to show how unfit this ABLP is in leading Antigua and Barbuda.

I have greencard and other US immigration applications for clients submitted to USCIS that will not be adjudicated because all applications for Antiguans and Barbudans are on hold and will not be decided because of the incompetence of ABLP.

ABLP are ruining people’s life, and even my business (I do not take payments until cases are decided. Now, I do not know when I will get payments because of ABLP incompetence).

We need a change of regime (lawfully) in the United Islands of Antigua and Barbuda. Urgently. I am calling on the people locally and the US government to act. I am doing what I can to make the country of UIA&B better.
