Vehicle Licensing Fees will increase by 40 percent across the board

40% across the board is just damn crazy! As a pensioner, I ask, “why not just pass a law that rescindsl pensioners ‘ right to operate a vehicle. This law should NOT become effective until this government allows drivers, especially pensioners, the opportunity to have their vehicles repaired AT GOVERNMENT’S EXPENSE for destroyed shocks, front-ends, tires etc., etc. I an fully aware that our shelf life as elderly voters is limited, but, for heaven’s sake, have a heart, jack!❤️

Charge according weight class and mileage.
I.e light weight ,middle weight, heavy and heavy duty commercial.
And add mileage used fee.
I.e 0- 5000, 5000-10000, 10.0000 +
The more usage the more you pay .
And improve on public transportation.

I’m just coming from a store here in the US where I complimented the Clerk for her Maths. I then saw this article where the ALP Government will be increasing vehicle licensing fee by 40 %. Did the Antigua and Barbuda people get that? Is the Opposition UPP breaking it down so the people understand that if you have $1.00, the Government is taking 40 Cents? I’m hearing about all those monies that the Port and Airport is making. How then you’re asking struggling Citizen and Residents to pay 40% to drive? That is ridiculous to say the least but the population will roll over and take it without making their voices be heard.

What is the exact budget for the project? What are the expenditure items? Who are getting the contracts? The figure quoted was “ABOUT 100 million”

What mechanisms will be put in place for MAINTENANCE!!!

Considering the cost of roads this is a reasonable approach. For the extra $120 a year it is worth it to be driving on smooth well marked roads.

Something needs to be done about the number of reckless drivers on the road. They need to be charged and fined.
