Position Overview
Reporting to the Chief Nursing Officer, the Director of Hospital Nursing Services provides strategic leadership at the health sector administration level and oversees all nursing operations at the Dominica China Friendship Hospital (DCFH) and other hospitals. The Director ensures compliance with policies, standards, and regulations; advances workforce development and retention; fosters innovation and collaboration; and represents the nursing service in hospital and national decision-making. The role is critical to strengthening Dominica’s healthcare system and building resilience in the face of evolving health challenges.
Key Responsibilities
- Strategic Leadership & Policy
- Develop and implement nursing policies, procedures, and strategic plans aligned with the mission of the health sector.
- Serve as a key advisor to the Ministry of Health on nursing-related matters and represent the profession at senior leadership forums.
- Contribute to hospital and national healthcare policy development, planning, and strategic decision-making.
- Nursing Operations Management
- Oversee nursing services at DCFH and other hospitals, ensuring smooth operations and optimal resource use.
- Manage staffing, scheduling, budgets, and resource allocation across hospital departments.
- Ensure the availability of essential equipment and supplies for quality patient care.
- Quality & Compliance
- Establish and maintain nursing standards for safe, effective, and patient-centered care.
- Monitor compliance with regulatory and accreditation requirements.
- Lead quality assurance initiatives and evaluate care delivery through ward inspections and performance standards.
- Workforce Development & Retention
- Lead recruitment, training, and professional development for nursing staff.
- Promote career advancement, staff engagement, and workplace well-being.
- Foster a supportive culture through open communication, recognition, and wellness initiatives.
- Collaborate with Nurse Educators and training institutions to advance nursing education and continuing certification.
- Performance Management
- Oversee performance appraisals, work planning, and staff evaluations.
- Implement systems to monitor nursing staff performance and patient care outcomes.
