The University of the West Indies (UWI) Five Islands Campus is urging residents across the Eastern Caribbean to strengthen their awareness and readiness for earthquakes, as it hosts a special webinar on Seismic Activity and Preparedness this Thursday, November 6th, 2025.
The online event—organised in partnership with the UWI Seismic Research Centre (SRC), the National Office of Disaster Services (NODS), and students of MGMT3089—aims to equip communities with vital knowledge that could save lives during seismic emergencies.
Experts from the UWI Seismic Research Centre will deliver insights on recent seismic activity and the regional context, while NODS officials will outline national preparedness and safety protocols. Representatives from the Five Islands Campus and the UWI St. Augustine Campus will also discuss campus and community readiness initiatives.
The session begins at 3:30 p.m. and will be held live via Zoom. Organisers emphasise that education and planning remain critical to reducing disaster risks in earthquake-prone regions.
“Knowledge is your first line of defence,” the campaign reminds. “When the earth moves, will you be ready?”
The event comes amid ongoing minor tremors recorded across the Eastern Caribbean, underscoring the importance of regional collaboration and public awareness in disaster preparedness.
