The University of the West Indies (UWI) Five Islands Campus is making
its mark on the regional stage as its Guild of Students delegation
participates in the 2025 Inter-Campus Guild Council (ICGC) Conference.
The conference, hosted at the UWI St. Augustine Campus in Trinidad and
Tobago from September 14th to 21st, brings together student leaders
from across the university system to address challenges, share ideas,
and develop proposals that can shape the future of higher education
within the region.
Representing UWI Five Islands at this year’s ICGC are Guild President
Kerron McKenzie, Postgraduate Representative Kimon Drigo, Guild
Treasurer Ajanté Fraser, and Games Committee Chairperson Anius Daniel.
Together, the delegation will join counterparts from the Mona, Cave
Hill, St. Augustine, and Global campuses in high-level discussions
focused on student development, advocacy, and institutional growth.
The ICGC is a vital platform where student leaders not only raise
issues faced by their respective student populations but also put
forward practical solutions and recommendations. Delegates will engage
in policy discussions, draft proposals, and collaborate on initiatives
aimed at improving student life and strengthening the collective voice
of the UWI student body across all five campuses.
Speaking on the significance of the conference, UWI Five Islands Guild
President Kerron McKenzie highlighted the responsibility placed on the
shoulders of young leaders:

“This conference shows that young leaders like ourselves are not only
capable but committed to bringing forward the real issues affecting
our student body and crafting practical solutions that can extend
beyond the university space. We are here to ensure that the voices of
UWI Five Islands students are heard and represented at the regional
level.”
McKenzie also extended commendations to his Guild Manager, Campus
Principal & Campus Registrar for the willing support and also fellow
Guild Presidents
Roshaun Wynter (Mona Campus), Alens Plante (Acting President, Cave
Hill Campus), Vedanand Hargobin (St. Augustine Campus), and Zilpah
Joyette (Global Campus) for leading their well-structured and
articulate contingents. Their leadership, he noted, reflects the
strength and unity of the UWI student movement across the Caribbean.
The UWI Five Islands delegation is expected to play an active role in
shaping discussions around pressing student concerns, from campus
resources and academic support to regional student mobility and
financial challenges. The proposals emerging from this conference are
intended not only to guide improvements within the university system
but also to inspire solutions that resonate beyond the campus
community.
As the newest campus in the UWI system, Five Islands continues to
demonstrate its commitment to regional integration and student
advocacy. The participation of its Guild leaders in the ICGC
highlights the campus’s growing influence and its determination to
contribute meaningfully to the broader development of the university
and the wider Caribbean society.
