Starting with 174 students, the campus now draws nearly 1,000 applicants annually.

Not just numbers, the campus boasts significant academic achievements, including its first nursing cohort’s upcoming graduation.

  1. should take advantage of the cost of going to UWI at the moment. So the question is: why are our students leaving in droves for the extremely expensive universities over the seas?

    • Just like the phrase, a King has no honor in his own country, so too our people do not believe in their own. The parents believe that because their child would be migrating to the USA, Canada or England, it would be better if they present to their future employer a degree from the same country. However, if they do come back home it doesn’t matter which university they have been to. Getting our students educated is one thing but getting them employment thereafter is much harder. And then there is the matter of salary structure. Our companies seem not to be willing to pay high salaries. Especially government salaries are not commensurate to your education. So, the brain drain continues.
I look forward to the day when presenting a UWI degree in North America and Europe will mean more. That will mean we need to attract students from those countries to come and study here at UWI. They will be our ambassadors and pave the way for others to present future employers in those countries with their degree and those employers will appreciate the value of such a degree earned at UWI.

  2. Brix, is this not great news that you should applaud. A vision from the honorable Gaston Browne unfolding itself before our very own eyes. Tell your chairwoman Ms. Isaac, that she really owes the university an apology for suggesting that UWI would water down their brand if they put a university in Antigua. The university of Five Islands is growing with Leaps and Bonds. In such a short time and we are already at one thousand.
