The Cabinet invited five persons who have an interest in re-developing the Antigua Turf Club, where horse racing normally takes place.

They believe that the location is ripe for development, now that the legal battles over the lease have ended.

The foreign investor, from the US Virgin Islands, is primarily a casino operator who agrees to transfer Fifteen Percent of all profits on their casino operation with the Antigua Turf Club and to invest Five Million US Dollars in its upgrade immediately.

They will make arrangements to house eighty horses and will generate over fifty jobs for nationals of Antigua and Barbuda.

The Investors will also partner with other turf clubs in the Caribbean, moving horses from one place to another, in order to encourage off-track-betting.

They estimate that it will be a very successful operation and the races will attract nationals and tourists alike, especially the seven hundred and fifty thousand cruise tourists expected to travel to Antigua and Barbuda annually and in each of the following years.

  2. wickedness at all cost..there is controversy over that race track an the more yall try to dis credit tyre master with whats rightfully his yall gonna fail.. i am from the same usvi the investors are coming from so i can shed light on the corruptions it from my end.. no invester wanna tie up their money in them kind a scandal.

  3. This should be a great investment and a good day for horse racing enthusiasts, since the VI on a whole is huge on turf racing BVI including.

  4. Tyre Master’s lease was April 1st, 2000 – April 1st, 2025. He took the Antigua Turf Club to court in 2012 and lost the case in 2018. Appealed and lost in 2021.
The ATC secured a deal by partnering with a USVI-based hospitality firm to operate a casino in Antigua that will provide 15% of their net revenue to the ATC. That will be used to maintain the facility and pay purse monies to owners. Additionally, horsemen will have an opportunity to study in the US through a fully funded scholarship program that will guarantee full certification in the equine industry. A Youth Equine Academy to train at-risk youth is also in the investment plan.
The government’s involvement is to regulate the racing so the integrity of the industry is not brought into disrepute.
The ATC did this on their own and not the government. But with all investments, the ABIA Act stipulates that certain concessions are to be granted and that is the responsibility of the government, whether blue, red or green. Everything shouldn’t be political! This is a win for the ATC and Antigua on a whole. Give credit to the ATC Executive for their hard work and stop make things about politics.
