SORUCE: ABS- United States State Department Spokesperson Tammy Bruce has issued a statement summarizing talks between the leaders of the six independent OECS members and The Commonwealth of The Bahamas in Washington on Tuesday.

She has issued this readout from the meeting:

“Secretary of State Marco Rubio met with the heads of government from the Eastern Caribbean and the Bahamas to underscore the urgent need for enhanced regional cooperation to combat drug and firearms trafficking and illegal migration – key drivers of violence and instability.

He encouraged Caribbean partners to strengthen intelligence-sharing, security cooperation, and border security through initiatives like the Caribbean Basin Security Initiative.

Secretary Rubio urged our partners to make responsible, transparent decisions when selecting vendors and contractors for critical infrastructure projects, ensuring they are not vulnerable to privacy and security risks and exploitation by malign actors like the Chinese Communist Party.

He also reaffirmed our commitment to holding accountable Cuban regime officials, foreign government officials, and those involved in facilitating the regime’s forced labor scheme, including Cuba’s medical missions.

With hurricane season less than one month away, Secretary Rubio announced the reactivation of two U.S.-administered programs to strengthen early warning systems and provide rapid, life-saving assistance across the Caribbean.

Participants in the meeting included: Prime Minister Ralph Gonsalves of Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit of Dominica, Prime Minister Gaston Browne of Antigua and Barbuda, Prime Minister Philip Davis of The Bahamas, Prime Minister Philip J. Pierre of Saint Lucia, Prime Minister Dickon Mitchell of Grenada, and Prime Minister Terrance Drew of Saint Kitts and Nevis.”

  1. Looking forward to seeing the specifics of the discussions. What comes next is just as important as the meeting itself.

  2. They were summoned to be chastised for their involvement with Cuba; particularly where it concerns the medical assistance program. They are all wimps and will cave to the commands of the U.S

  3. @Rovi, you are correct. It is that along with the Chinese involvement. We should get the American contractors so that they can spy on us rather than getting the Chinese contractors.

We can never be fully independent to make decisions of our own.

  4. @Rovi. Easy for you to spout this crap. Reality is real. Most of our tourists come either by plane or cruise ship from the US. 95% of everything we need to live comes through the US.
50% of Antiguans and Barbudans were born in the US as mothers have been travelling for 50 years to have their children in the USVI, Puerto Rico and NY.
So get real. He who pays the piper calls the tune. This is reality.
