US Congressman Carlos Gimenez has publicly backed Trinidad and Tobago Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar over her sharp criticism of CARICOM and Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro.
In a post on X on Monday, Gimenez quoted Persad-Bissessar’s remarks dismissing the Caribbean’s long-standing “zone of peace” doctrine as “fakery,” and praised her support for US policy toward Venezuela, which he described as an “illegitimate, narco-dictatorship.”
The endorsement is one of the few public expressions of support from a US lawmaker since Persad-Bissessar aligned her administration more closely with Washington’s approach to Venezuela, including support for expanded US military and maritime operations in the region.
Persad-Bissessar has accused CARICOM of siding with what she called a “narco government” in Caracas and said Trinidad and Tobago would not support the bloc’s “zone of peace” position. She has also argued that Venezuela has repeatedly threatened Guyana and implied territorial claims involving Trinidad and Tobago.
Her stance marks a shift from Trinidad and Tobago’s traditional support for CARICOM’s emphasis on dialogue and non-militarisation, and has fuelled renewed regional debate over foreign policy alignment and security priorities.

I am 100% of the US and Trinidad and Tobago about this. It is sad ABLP have no morals to stand up for democracy and human rights.
“An organisation that chooses to disparage our greatest ally, the United States, but lends support to the Maduro narco-government headed by a dictator who has imprisoned and killed thousands of civilians and opposition members, as well as threatened two Caricom members, is one that has clearly lost its way,” Persad-Bissessar said in her statement.
I love this woman. Any person who say this is my hero. There are greedy idiots who think money and free oil is sufficient to forgive, forget and allow the tyranny of governments like Cuba, Venezuela, etcetera. All horrible leaders think is oh, they give us more than you, so allow them to be as evil to their own people and others as they like. This is the ignorance ABLP and their supporters preach.
The rest of the Caribbean leaders are idiots to not back the US ….The situation in Venezuela will directly affect us in Antigua if Maduro is left alone…..Trinidad and Tobago PM knows whats at risk and she is speaking out against other Caribbean leaders who suffer from I Hate Trumpism and those who are afraid of the Chinese turning their backs….Good Move Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar and trust me the other leaders will realize their mistakes……
I totally agree, for too long we have adopted this behavior that we would turn a blind eye to certain things and then some of the same things we punish…”LIKE” Gaston brown Crap.. talking about cleaning up antigua with the cars, garbage etc, but what is happing to the broken glass that’s left on the bus stops that people use, is that insanity? Better roads ? I’m dropping in to pot holes left right and center.. wtf APUA IS SO CONFUSED, dig right here then patch it up, then a week later dig it up again.. sounds just about right because our leader is confused.. what it means to build a strong economy means that we have to be more self reliance..now our strength is in tourism, so why St. John’s look so ..he says he wanna get rid of the derelict buildings, but what about the building between APUA AND TREASURY? Is it owed by a friend ? Let’s get Back to the push to sort out Venezuela and to curb some of the drug activities yes that’s a good thing .. heres my question about Antigua have you ever seen any big” well known person go to jail here? .. “HARDLY “ btw what happened to the drug bust with so an so .. on bail then the case disappears just like the evidence at police headquarters, so why would crooks be trusted by America ? The place is to shady … too much bribery’s and cut throats, special favors and political interference, “LIKE NOT Investigating THE CAR SCANDAL.. you know I know, you know, they know we know you must go because everything you do is for a SHOW..
