Health officials have issued an urgent appeal for donations of O-negative blood, citing critically low supplies at the Sir Lester Bird Medical Centre.
In a public notice, the hospital has called on eligible donors to visit the SLBMC Blood Bank, located on the first floor of the laboratory building, to help replenish stocks.
The blood bank is open daily from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., and officials say immediate donations are essential to meet patient needs.
O-negative blood is considered the universal donor type and is often used in emergencies when a patient’s blood group is unknown. Medical professionals warn that shortages can have serious consequences for trauma care, surgeries and other urgent treatments.

Members of the public seeking further information are encouraged to contact the SLBMC Blood Bank directly at 484-2720.
Hospital officials have thanked those who are able to donate, noting that a single donation can help save multiple lives.
