UPP Unveils Caretaker Slate Ahead of 2026 Political Push
The United Progressive Party has unveiled its slate of constituency caretakers as it moves to strengthen its organisation ahead of the 2026 political cycle.
Opposition Leader and UPP Political Leader Jamale Pringle confirmed the lineup in his New Year’s message, describing the team as central to rebuilding and restructuring the party and preparing for a national campaign focused on what he called “People First” governance.
The announced caretakers are:
- St. Philip South – Sherfield Bowen
- St. Philip North – Senator Alex Browne
- St. Paul – Wayne Benjamin Marsh
- St. Peter – Captain George Wehner
- St. Mary’s North – Senator Johnathon Joseph
- St. Mary’s South – Kelvin Simon
- St. John’s City East – Senator Pearl Quinn-Williams
- St. John’s City West – Alister Thomas
- St. John’s City South – Franz deFreitas
- St. John’s Rural East – Ashworth Azille
- St. John’s Rural West – Richard Lewis
- St. John’s Rural North – Malaka Parker
- St. John’s Rural South – Emanuel Peters
- All Saints West – Harold Lovell
- All Saints East & St. Luke – Jamale Pringle
Pringle said a caretaker for St. George will be named in the coming weeks after the party’s branch in that constituency completes its internal process.
He noted that the caretaker team will be responsible for strengthening constituency structures, engaging supporters, and laying the groundwork for the party’s broader political agenda heading into 2026 and beyond.

In this line up, the thing that will motivate people is if Harold Lovell becomes the political leader and Richard his deputy leader to heal the fracture wounds caused by past balkanization between supporters over leadership that caused some to leave and go silent and withdrawn .

I am convinced that the UPP does not use a democratically transparent process to choose its candidate. Let us look at St.John’s Rural North for example. I don’t think Malaka Parker has shown enough Loyalty to be propelled immediately to become a perspective candidate in let than a month of returning to the UPP. She is no superstar, no popular candidate, not a people person that will draw the constituents towards her. She is not a humble and down to earth person either. Let me be clear that I know that she is academically sound and articulate. The deposed caretaker may not be as eloquent or academic . However she possesses the values that make a good human and politician. She is humble, caring, down to earth, hard working- In fact one of the few caretakers that is genuinely involved in with people of her constituency. Gladis Potter is also wise and has been doing all in her power to continue on an academic journey. Politics is also about timing and this is bad timing and a bad choice.
Sounds like the leadership of the party is afraid of certain people and others as loyal as Gladis Potters you completely disregard. Gladis you are a convincing campaigner, very likable and has not stopped working since the last general election.
My mind also goes back to the lady Edwards that had shown interest in this same constituency. Her timing was perfect and she was also a total package. She withdrew sighting that the process will not democratic and transparent. So what process is now used to chose Malaka Parker.
This is where the general public have a major problem with the UPP. The process of choosing candidates.
Your internal politics and not following the party’s constitution have caused you from being close to be in government to not even a viable opposition.
