UPP to Host Town Hall on ‘Vehicle Gate’ Scandal, Calls for Independent Probe
The opposition United Progressive Party (UPP) will host a town hall meeting on Tuesday, October 21, to discuss what it calls the “Vehicle Gate” scandal and to demand an independent investigation into alleged irregularities in the government’s vehicle procurement process.
The meeting, organized by the UPP’s Progressive Youth arm, will take place at Freedom Hall on Lower Newgate Street beginning at 7 p.m. It will also be broadcast live on Progressive 107.3 FM and social media platforms.
According to promotional material for the event, the discussion will focus on what the party describes as a “conspiracy” surrounding the purchase of government vehicles and the need for accountability and transparency within the administration.
The controversy gained traction after Prime Minister Gaston Browne confirmed during a recent parliamentary session that there had been procedural breaches and instances of abuse in the acquisition of government vehicles. Opposition members have since called for a full, independent investigation to determine the extent of any misconduct.
The town hall is expected to feature remarks from party officials and civil society representatives, and forms part of the UPP’s continuing campaign for what it describes as integrity, transparency, and good governance in public office.
