On March 8, 1989 Mr. Spencer was elected Member of Parliament for St. John’s Rural West, and served 6 terms before retiring in 2018.

In recognition of his legacy, the UPP St. John’s Rural West Constituency Branch will present the former Prime Minister with a Lifetime Achievement Award for his outstanding leadership and commitment to community development and uplifting lives.

An exciting weekend of activities is planned to honor Mr. Spencer’s legacy as leader of the UPP Sunshine Government.

Sat Mar 23 – A community social will be held at Pensioner’s Beach to commemorate the United Progressive Party’s victory.

Sun Mar 24 – Special Prayers and Praise, as part of the Morning Worship Service at the Greenbay Moravian Church, to celebrate the day Mr. Spencer was sworn in as Prime Minister of Antigua and Barbuda..

Current MP for St. John’s Rural West, Hon. Richard Lewis, a protégé of Mr. Spencer, will present the Lifetime Achievement Award. He describes Mr. Spencer as a man of integrity, authenticity and compassion.

“Mr. Spencer’s dedication to the people of St. John’s Rural West, will forever remain etched in the fabric of our community. He has demonstrated genuine care for the community and the importance of “putting people first.” His leadership, passion, and unwavering commitment to community development made him a pillar of strength for those around him. Mr. Spencer’s strong values and philosophy are still being manifested through the many social programs that were created by the UPP administration,” Lewis said.

Throughout the celebration events, several tributes will be paid to Mr. Spencer by community leaders and Party officials.

Mr. Spencer’s career in active politics spanned almost 30 years and supporters are encouraged to wear vintage T-Shirts and other attire from the Spencer campaign.

They are also encouraged to share memorabilia or photos as part of the nostalgia. Both weekend events are open to the public.

  1. Fantastic news, and well deserved sir.

I wasn’t a supporter of the UPP or the Honourable Spencer Baldwin at the time of their election and prominence; however I do acknowledge that his input has made sure that this great country of ours didn’t become a one party state – which is ABLP’S current goal.

I for one, now acknowledge the importance of a VIABLE opposition party like the UPP.

Praises to the Lord indeed 🙏🏽

A WELCOMED ACKNOWLEDGEMENT. ENJOY THE MANY PLAUDITS …👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾

  2. The Honorable Baldwin Spencer is well deserving of a recognition of such nature.

He has been a beacon in the Gray’s Green community. Regardless of his political persuasion, he was well respected by every resident and his name was a house hold name in every house in Gray’s Green community.

Sadly though, it was a bit disappointing that he did not accept the naming of the Gray’s Green community center in his honor. He was certainly very instrumental in every faucet of the socio-economics of the Gray’s Green community be it sports, religion, politics, or culture.

A monument or plaque should be engraved on the walls of the community center & perhaps the UPP branch Office in his honor!!

    • And Gaston Browne’s “legacy” after two terms is a joy to behold to the country is it @ PARA?

BWOI, YOU ABLP ACOLYTES AND GASTONITES ARE SOMETHING ELSE …

    • Gaston Top Dawg Browne legacy 35 failed products, Alfa Nargo, Failed Economy, Failed Healthcare, Failed Infrastructure, Failed Education. The Economy Powerhouse is going one way, while the people suffer. The guy is a failed experiment. Time for him to go and he must go and go now, he and his useful idiots.

        • @Knight
You are fired from Observer Radio. It is about time. Knight is a DISGRACE to radio. Hope you are having a wonderful time with your BOYFRIEND.

Paul and Franz don’t want you back on the radio. Knight is an awful fellow.

          • @ PARA, is nastiness a prerequisite to becoming an ABLP supporter?

            SEEMS SO …

Whenever UPP members or advocates pull up on you all on Gaston wayward policies and inactions, all ABLP can resort to are nasty imprecations – a trait picked up obviously from the PM.

Always the last resort of the ignorant and uneducated. So sad!

  3. I know he meant all Antiguans and Barbudans well. Why he left, retired whatever, there must have been good reason(s). Whether his leaving and the timing was strategically beneficial for the UPP, maybe still unfolding.

  4. You must give honor where honor is due and Baldwin Spencer deserves every acalade he gets.@Para, what hole did you crawl out of? What, it’s outside of your nasty scope to give credit where credit is due because Spencer was UPP?
Do you know that “para, ” is from Greek meaning, among other things,”abnormal? “What an apt description of you Laborites and Gastonites.
Kudos to Baldwin Spencer. Very deserving.

    • @ bulldust, you sound much too young to recall the damage of the 40-odd years of Birdism and Browneism (not that I recall this at the time, but I did my research regarding Lester Bird’s tenure in office).

There hasn’t been much improvements or change by the ABLP to the country as a whole over those 4 decades; and I would imagine that if you were given a job to complete, that you’d finish it within a 40 year period … would you not?
