For the second year in a row, the United Progressive Party boycotted the government-hosted V.C. Bird Day celebrations, choosing instead to hold its own observance away from the official ceremony.
While government officials, dignitaries and members of the Bird family gathered on Lower All Saints Road for the annual wreath-laying in honour of Sir Vere Cornwall Bird, the UPP marked the day separately. Images posted on Facebook showed party members laying wreaths and paying tribute at alternative sites dedicated to national heroes and contributors to Antigua and Barbuda’s development.

VC Birdism is a CULT
And these are the people who wants to run our country? This is already having no respect for the man who built our nation decades ago. Pringle stood in parliament saying that the ABLP politicize everything but as the opposition leader, the mirror on the wall must have not been working! You should have been honoring the legacy of a man who layered the political foundation of your country but instead you’re out there trying to be bitter and seeking attention!
Antigua has a day set aside for heroes day. Baldwin Spencer as former Prime Minister of our nation should have gone against Pringle in this decision. You should have been honoring the father of our nation but you chose to take a different part all because he was a Laborite? Hmm. Pringle oh Pringle! You’ll never be man enough to run our nation
Every person that has contributed to nation building MUST be respected. The RT. HON. V. C. Bird made his contribution and he should be respected. With that said, the ABLP brings across the honouring of VC and his legacy like a cult following.
What the ABLP has done is to water down the importance of Hero’s Day, to observe one POLITICAL figure, and I disagree with it. The day should be a Hero’s Day, and every person that has contributed to nation building is recognised and celebrated
I hold no bias for our against either party. But this division over our this issue needs to be addressed and fixed.
The current ABLP appears to put more effort into decent 9,than what ever date they claim Hero’s day is on whatever date in November
REALLY!!!!!! Ok I get it Papa is Red and y’all are Blue but ohhh lord jack stop go on like Papa’s contributions to this Nation doesn’t top the List and YES he deserves his own national Holiday…I find this is very disrespectful…
This is nothing new…. This has been going on for years…. UPP were the ones to introduce this day in 2004, it was the changed to Heroes day after…. On regaining the government 10 yrs later the labor party did away with the 9th as Heroes day and renamed it VC Bird day….. truth be told, do as long as we have existed as a nation until 2004 we only recognized colonials as heroes…. Heroes day Should be a public Holiday
@ . I agree with your opinion. You respect those that have contributed to nation building beyond and above the ordinary man, but this takes it to a whole new level
A bunch of wannabe relevant people
I Agree With The U.P.P On This One.. They’re Right.. This Is A Disrespect To The Other Hero’s Who Contributed In An Impactful Way..
Don’t hang out with wicked people lest you become wicked too. I have no issue with their stance
If you lay down with dogs you get flees. Simple as dat
And so it shall be, for ever and ever Amen. Tek um on and dead you bunch if hypocrites and dividers not even Faithful National #1 k enough fu comment pon dat
That is why Antiguans and Barbudans can never ever be a UNITED NATION.
Politics will always divide us in the Two Camps. Red and Blue.
God Help Us.
