UPP Regroups and Prepares for Future Elections, Says Deputy Leader Bowen

The United Progressive Party (UPP) is intensifying its efforts to strengthen its position for upcoming elections, with Deputy Political Leader Sherfield Bowen announcing that the party is actively regrouping and preparing for potential by-elections. Speaking on a weekend radio interview, Bowen outlined the party’s readiness strategy and progress on finalizing its slate of candidates for the next general election.

“We are getting ourselves together and making sure we’re in a state of readiness for any other election,” Bowen stated. He noted that the party anticipates the possibility of additional by-elections in the near future and is taking proactive steps to ensure its preparedness.

Bowen also revealed that the selection process for candidates is nearing completion. “The branches have made their selections, and the next step is to finalize approvals through the party’s General Council,” he explained. Once this internal process is concluded, the UPP plans to officially unveil its candidates to the public during a formal presentation event.

The announcement comes in the wake of the recent St. Peter by-election, where the UPP faced a setback. Bowen, however, underscored the importance of looking ahead and maintaining focus on the party’s broader objectives.

In addition to electoral readiness, Bowen reaffirmed the UPP’s commitment to addressing pressing national issues, noting that the party meets regularly to discuss and develop policy positions. “We are continuously engaging in leadership discussions to debate the issues and formulate our stance,” he said.

As the UPP gears up for future electoral contests, Bowen emphasized the need for robust community engagement and the importance of offering a compelling vision for Antigua and Barbuda’s development. The party’s next steps, including the candidate presentation event, are expected to solidify its strategy as it works toward reclaiming political ground.

  1. Bowen the UPP is between a rock and Browne place. I honestly do not believe the ABLP ever won a fair election not even the recently held by-election in St. Peter, remember how they spoke about transferring people to strengthen weak constituencies

  2. After two broken promises to reveal the first 10 candidates, why should anyone take these jokers seriously?

Bowen, you should just go ahead and move to overthrow Pringle as youve laid out to certain confidants.

Move quickly. The new party breakaway and the move to bring back Harold are both competing with your climb to leadership.

If you allow the UPP to break up any further, you’ll probably find overthrowing Pringle was a waste of time.

  3. @Visionary
Continuing to be a sore loser doesn’t do you any good. Politics is about strategy not sympathy. You’re doing the old PLM loser tactic that has since been dispersed. There are more registered voters on the side of the ABLP than the UPP.
For the UPP to have won in 2004, it means therefore that some support had to have crossed over from the ALP, now rebranded the ABLP.
There was a fatigue across the landscape of Antigua and people decided to give this new group with a fresh slate of upstanding citizens as candidates to fulfill their promise of taking us in a new direction.
Better living, less corruption, more job creation, empowering youth, you name it.
Then in 2009, they struggled to stay in office until the Appeals Court decided to keep them in office after having the case on its docket more than a year. Their reason for deciding to let the administration remain in office is to keep stability in the country.
Remember that the ALP regained 3 additional seats in the lower in 2009 bring their numbers to 7. Hemce, as you can clearly see that after only 4 years, they were regaing traction among the voting block.
So, for you to suggest that old and stale cliche that ABLP never wins fairly is just that bitter nonsense.

  4. You can “regroup” from now til Rastafarian embrace lgbtqi, the UPP is doomed!!!! Lipstick Hag and Dead Dog are the problem!

  5. @Dave Ray: You are so right. The PLM comparison is spot on. The UPP refuses to be accountable for a single one of their numerous failures.

Everything to them is cheating or buyout, as if we the voters don’t know that their candidates spend money too (and pocket a lot of it, by the way). They are just sad that donors haven’t given them serious support since 2004.

Now under Pringle they will be the weakest they have EVER been financially. So what can they do but claim ONLY the other side is doing what they wished they still could?

You can’t fix what you refuse to acknowledge. The more intelligent of the UPP supporters will have to decide how much time and effort they are willing to invest in an obviously losing cause. They will have to ask themselves if they are willing to be carried a little further like fools, while top UPP leaders build their mega mansions and negotiate their side deals with the government of the day.

  6. No one should take anything an old killer says seriously. This same killer PUBLICLY SUPPORTED RICHARD LEWIS BY SIGNING THAT LETTER OF ENDORSEMENT. Then he was hauled in before the Lipstick Hag and suddenly changed his mind and switched allegiance to Dead Darg Pringle.

Pringle need o watch his back because this heartless shooter cannot be trusted. In-the-river-on-the-bank. He has NO LOYALTY!!!

  7. This has got to be a joke 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 UPP DELUSIONAL NO WAH!!!!

  8. @ Vision. Your mind and meditation are so warped and steeped in dishonesty, that you really have nothing of value to offer to the UPP,, trying they say to regroup as a credible and worthy political organization. If they are indeed serious, they should completely reject your 💩 which continues the trite, dishonest pattern based on lies and deceptions. There are so many intellectually competent, potential good leaders in the UPP. Why then do they continue to ally and align themselves with the cheap, out-dated, ineffective, verbiage that you continue to spout. The electorate is as sick of you as we are of the UPP in its present state!
