UPP Promises to Revamp Health, Education, and Tourism Sectors

Thwaites Corner, Antigua — United Progressive Party (UPP) leader Jamale Pringle has laid out his party’s vision for a sweeping overhaul of key national sectors, pledging to prioritise the needs of ordinary Antiguans and Barbudans rather than the wealthy elite.

Addressing supporters at a rally held at Thwaites Corner on Wednesday night, Pringle said a future UPP government would focus on transforming healthcare, education, and tourism — areas he described as vital to national development but neglected by the current administration.

“We are prepared to come to you once again with programs and policies not to benefit politicians or those who are high-income earners, but to benefit you — the ordinary man and woman of Antigua and Barbuda,” he said.

In his address, Pringle committed to strengthening the healthcare system, promising top-tier services that would eliminate the need for citizens to seek basic care abroad. He said the UPP would draw on both local expertise and international partnerships to deliver meaningful improvements.

Turning to education, Pringle said the system must be revamped to better prepare young people for the modern workforce, while also creating opportunities for adult learning and skills training. He added that education would serve as the foundation for national progress.

The opposition leader also spoke of the need to reform the tourism industry to create more inclusive economic opportunities. He argued that tourism should not only benefit investors and major players but also empower small business owners, service workers, and communities.

“We must use that sector to empower the ordinary man and woman in Antigua and Barbuda,” he said.

Pringle’s remarks were framed by a broader critique of the current Antigua and Barbuda Labour Party (ABLP) administration, which he accused of mismanagement and self-enrichment. He said the time had come for a new approach centred on service and accountability.

As election speculation continues to mount, the UPP appears to be positioning itself as a government-in-waiting, with Pringle promising that under his leadership, the party will act as “servants of the people.”

No date has been announced for the next general election, but the UPP has increased its public outreach in recent weeks, vowing to take its message directly to communities across the country.

  1. When will Pringle stop being a "BABY DADDY" and become a HUSBAND???? Ms. Reid don't let him waste your time!!!! When will Pringle stop being a "BABY DADDY" and become a HUSBAND???? Ms. Reid don't let him waste your time!!!!

LMAO 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 by bringing back former Health Minister Wilmoth Daniel??

Btw school children say de “Black Hadeed” building house for you and your mama in a prime real estate area. De people not stupid. You don’t care about them Pringle.

  2. revamp Education:

    -Jackie Quinn LOWERED PASS MARK

-UPP GOT RID OF TEACHERS by offering them that infamous “package” (they later admitted it was a BAD choice)

  3. NUFF RESPECT TO THE BARBUDANS WHO ARE STANDING FIRM, RESOLUTE and STEADFAST to protect their RIGHTS.

UPP just DO THE WORK and eliminate the promises.

If you’re gonna make a “promise” that you can keep, please amend the Constitution in order that the General Elections has a FIXED DATE (by-elections are exceptions oof course), because no one individual should command that much power in deciding willy-nilly when the General Elections MUST be.

Gaston Browne, PM is using psychology to have the OPPOSITIONS running around like fools pumping monies into the economy by way of CAMPAIGNING or moblising as Pringle is alluding to.

Promises are a comfort to a fool. The UPP can take a few pages out of the BPM – Barbuda’s People Movement playbook.

Just do the works and let them speak because “empty barrels make the most noise, rolling down the road!”

  4. LMAO. Pringle you go, black little boy. Go do your homework.
I remember Frans telling us that when he becomes the minister of Education it will be CATOSTROPHIC. I guess when Pringle will becomes the Prime Minister it will be more then CATOSTRIOPIC. It will be APOCALYPTIC.
People get ready for the last days. The UPP is coming. Repent and turn from your wicked ways. Seek him now that he still can be found. Safe yourselves.
If My people who are called by My name will humble themselves, and pray and seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin and heal their land.

  5. A disunited UPP will never become government. The nation is crying for a good opposition and alternative government. However, from your convention until now you have become more disunited. You have three of your MPs purposefully drawing further and further away and determined to further divide. They absent themselves from you public meeting. You guys are acting like children, focusing on power and selfishness over your party and serving as the king’s opposition. The same three running behind the ABLP administration/ Gaston Browne and Antony Smith to participate in the same land grabbing design for the self enrichment of the ruling politicians.
All three are going to loose their seats when ever the next general election is called.

  6. With you as the face and voice of the auapap we are in a BAD shape and position. You are not intelligent. You are not eloquent. You are not learning. You are not improving. You are indeed a puppet in a string. Antiguans can brace for another five years of hardship under the labour party and much longer once you remain leader of the party. People with more degrees than a thermometer are glad to have you as “leader” so they can pull your strings and you are just toooooooooooo “SMART” to see that.

  7. @Straight Shooter I am waiting for Pringle’s biggest supporter and defender “V for Vendetta” to respond to your factual comment. The UPP will go no where under the leadership of Pringle and all them bright people in the Party refuse to accept that fact for their own selfish reasons. Just a delusional bunch of people. They know nothing of the art and pragmatism of politics.

  8. All these years why is it Antigua like every place else do not have a fix date or time for election. Just like carnival have a july/ August and not February, why is it election in Antigua don’t have a fix date instead of all the surprises and underhanded action on the other side when they least expect. Opposition the people you have in parliament got to make requests make changes don’t just sit in a chair and let everyone else make decision remember the people that put you there are depending on you.

  9. @Curious a fixed date for election would require constitutional amendment. Presently, the Constitution mandates that Parliament should have a life of five years. However, it also gives the Prime Minister the power to dissolve Parliament and call an election any time within the five years. I guess the latter is what you have a problem with but that requires constitutional reform.
