The main opposition United Progressive Party (UPP) said it will unveil a US$300 million dollar project immediately upon returning to office at the next general election.
Party leader Harold Lovell made the announcement at the UPP’s Vision Forum held on Thursday.
“We are going to have in Antigua a US$ 300 million investment in a major hotel and I can tell you with all certainty that agreement will be signed and finalised shortly after we are elected when that election is called,” Lovell told a crowd of mainly party supporters.
He did not name the hotel investment but said it would create about 1,500 jobs directly and indirectly.
“We will have another project, US$122 million, that will be in the export (business) and that will create 1,185 jobs; and that too is a project that will come on stream very shortly after we take office,” Lovell added
The UPP leader said a new housing project for which discussions are already underway will also create jobs if his party wins.
He said a UPP government will also place emphasis on building entrepreneurs at every level.

FROM THE VERY INCEPTION OF THE UPP THEY HAVE PROMISED ALOT BUT, HAS GIVEN LITTLE TO THE DEVELOPMENT OF OUR COUNTRY. NOW WITH THE LIKES OF WILMOUTH DANIEL AS DEPUTY LEADER , CAN WE LOOK FOR ANY BETTER THAN WHAT HAPPENED WHEN THEY WERE GIVEN TWO TERMS ? ARE WE LOOKING FOR MORE TROUBLE THAN WHAT THEY COST/ CAUSED US THE LAST TIME?
PROMISES!!! PROMISES!!! They knew and we knew could not be delivered!

Why wait until next election, if all this is for the good of the people why should it wait, credit will still be yours. It’s like, put me in charge and things will be good and if not then I’m not willing to help you.
If any of these parties have any interest in good for people why wait for an election to do it? If the ABLP won’t allow you to get these projects going then they will answer to the people so what’s the excuse?
Young Business would an Opposition have the budget, resources or authority to implement any of the above projects? I think an Opposition can mobilize the community in conjunction with an NGO, and clean up the environment etc. But what you are proposing, I could be wrong, but how could the Opposition accomplish any of these things?
While I don’t disagree with you, if a major hotel brand wanted to invest in Antigua why do they need certain people to be in charge? What are they being promised? More ridiculous tax cuts and exemptions? Government policies will not change overnight. This is not about red blue. Every election the opposition has investors outside the door waiting for their friends to be in charge. Yida was signed shortly after and up to now……… Promises Promises.
Promises SMH a way the Linquist Report day
IRONY: After all of the injunctions and motions that were filed, the ABLP will convict Asot Michael and others WITHOUT the Linquist Report. The Metropolitan Police did all of the investigative work for us for FREE. That is how karma works.

Me hope so because thw last time, i had to endure harassment galore from St. John’s Development ( I’m still actively doing business with n The Police who were given directive to harass me. I’m a local Gray’s Farm man who has a vision of Owning my own Business. I’m for Antigua & Barbuda. So far it has proven far easier to Operate a Small Business under ABLP.
