UPP Prepares for St Peter By-Election Following Asot Michael’s Tragic Death

The opposition United Progressive Party (UPP) held a meeting on Friday to plan for the upcoming St Peter by-election, scheduled for January 14, 2025, following the death of Independent MP Asot Michael.

Michael, who represented the constituency for decades, was tragically found stabbed to death on November 5.

Prime Minister Gaston Browne informed Governor General Sir Rodney Williams of the by-election, as mandated by the Constitution, with Nomination Day set for December 31, 2024.

Michael, who won the St Peter seat five consecutive times, ran as an Independent in the 2023 election, securing 2,137 votes against UPP, ABLP, and DNA candidates. His alleged killer, Alexta Francis, is in custody awaiting trial.

UPP leader Jamale Pringle stated the party’s plans would be revealed after internal discussions, expected next week.

    Well… Leadership Matters and the Gisele Dictator and Pringle Puppet bring no leadership. LeaderSH*T perhaps. That’s the real “bovine scatology” Pearl needs to study.

    This will only become more clear after the St. Peter bang off. It may even be clear enough for the most deranged blue coolaid drinkers to begin to wonder what the hell they have done to kill Baldwin’s once great party.

  4. UPP back is against the wall so much that it is not funny. They had momentum after the general Elections and looked poised to take over government any moment. In an interview Gaston sent out threats to his MP , that he will call a general election before any of them try anything with his slim majority in parliament.
    Today 1 year and months later UPP is a shade of what it was just after the 2022 election. It makes no sense the UPP contest the St.Peters By-election. The results will be embarrassing. On the other hand it will still be an embarrassment if they don’t, since they were boasting that they had a full slate of caretakers/candidates a few months ago.
    Gaston did the right thing from an ABLP perspective. He is s great politician and used the broken UPP situation to his party’s advantage.
    So it makes no sense the UPP throws the little resources they have to go after an election that they are going to loose so badly that it will be humiliating.
    On the next hand Mr. Turner of the UPP has turned up a few notches. He showed all the respect and support to the Late Asot Michael family. To the point that the sisters thanked him publicly. He was in an unbeatable position even without the support of the sisters. Now it’s impossible to defend him in any elections in the near future unless he does something really stupid.
    Last night he gave out the much appreciated ham and turkey and dropped a nice Christmas card.
    He don’t have to do any spending, since time is so limited and it’s already in the win column.
    Turner will soon be appointed to become the Minister of PWD of should. I would transfer Maria to Junior Minister of Tourism. Max Fanandez already announced his retirement from politics. So Hon. Maria Browne can start the training to take over that great Ministry.
    Gaston Browne and the ABLP is now in complete control. He can now look at appointing another young and aspiring Senator in Turners placed. One to take over from Max or Maulwin or even Robin or Cutie. Senator MaryClare Hurst can also be retired soon and just concentrate on her chairmanship of the board, leaving more room for another senator. Gaston has so much room to maneuver that he can now complete his rebuilding process.
    If the UPP don’t make quick decisions, it’s possible they can loose all 17 seats during the next general elections. They have slight but eroding leads in All Saints East, St.Mary’s South ( Suggy ) and St.Phillips South ( Bowen). With the implosion Alex lost momentum, Serpent in reverse, Lewis new and dynamic opponent gaining support so rapidly in him , while his is fighting for leadership. P

  7. I saw this coming for the UPP. I would advise UPP DO NOT contest in St. Peter. We would look more STUPID.Just a waste of money.

  8. Where on this news article does it point to UPP preparing or readying itself for the by-election? What has journalism come to in this land? Do journalists take an oath to be fair and impartial? If not, they deserve to. This political mouthpiece should make it clear that it is not a news portal but rather a political propaganda machine
