UPP Parliamentarians condemn House Speaker for partisan remarks that undermine his position
Opposition Parliamentarians are condemning social-media comments posted by Speaker of the House Osbert Frederick yesterday, June 4, in which he clearly showed political bias against the United Progressive Party (UPP).
The comments, referencing the US Federal Judge’s ruling on subpoenas sought in the Alfa Nero matter, “are nakedly partisan,” the MPs say. The implication is that the UPP Members“wished and hoped for this nation’s name and reputation to be stained” – words posted by Mr. Frederick on Prime Minister Gaston Browne’s Facebook page.
“That the Speaker of the House would go so far, in his personal capacity, to attribute such improper motives to Members is a new low,” the MPs say, “particularly when, from inception, the UPP has had nothing to do with the acquisition and sale of the Alfa Nero.
It would be impossible for the current House Speaker not to know of the MPs disassociation from the matter since March 2023. “Therefore, his comments reek of malice and partisanship,” they say.
The Party views Mr. Frederick’s comments as an unfortunate pattern that was last evidenced in a threatening letter he issued to St. George MP Algernon Watts in April.
Given this latest demonstration of the “side” on which the Speaker leans, the United Progressive Party Members are forced to accept that they cannot expect the objectivity and professionalism that should characterize the conduct of Mr. Frederick in the House of Representatives.
They will be guided accordingly and will acquaint regional colleagues of this state of affairs through the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association’s regional executive.
“The highest court of the land has been severely compromised,” the UPP MPs conclude.

Boy, just shut up, listen and learn. You are annoying, as annoying as the shrill croaking of a congregation of frogs following a good shower of rain on Antigua. House Speaker , Frederick can teach you much more in one session of Parliament than the HAG could ever do in three successive electoral cycles!
“The highest court in the land” is the privy counsel not parliament. UPP need’s to remember what my son just had to for his o level exams. that there are 3 branches of government. Courts, unlike parliament, do not make the rules, they interpret and apply them. This misunderstanding helps explain why during 2004 – 2014, the UPP admin had so many run ins with the courts. It may also help to explain why so many of its members were against the CCJ.
All that can be said here is that Faithful National #1 is a SPECIAL TYPE OF IDIOT, he doesn’t have any sense of fairness regardless to how you feel about the Opposition they should be treated fairly. You were probably born with Red Eye disease
The ABLP has made politics here in Antigua farcical. However once Gaston Browne and his out of touch clowns are eventually voted out of office in a couple of years.
Then Antigua & Barbuda will rise like a phoenix from the flames of despair … nany of us will be rejoicing on the streets. A new dawn is coming!
