Browne Claims UPP Members Secretly Approached Labour Party for Deals
Prime Minister Gaston Browne has alleged that members of the opposition United Progressive Party (UPP) privately sought positions within his government despite publicly opposing the Antigua and Barbuda Labour Party (ABLP).
Speaking on his weekly radio programme, Browne said MP Kelvin Smon had attempted to negotiate a ministerial role while remaining in the opposition. “You cannot be both an opponent and a proponent at the same time,” he said, dismissing the alleged proposal as unrealistic.
The prime minister also claimed that other opposition figures had discreetly approached the government seeking opportunities, even as they maintained a public stance against the administration. He accused the UPP of internal divisions, saying members were actively undermining their own leadership.
The UPP has not responded to the claims, but the allegations could raise questions about party loyalty and political credibility. The party has faced internal challenges in recent months, including reported disagreements over leadership and strategy.
Browne’s remarks could deepen tensions within the opposition and influence public perceptions ahead of the next election.
However, UPP insiders suggest the claims may be an attempt to deflect attention from national issues and create uncertainty within the party’s ranks.

So UPP better come out as a united force otherwise none of them might survive.

Therebis a special place reserved in hell for Gaston Browne. When a man can put and have his employees on his private radio station question his wife’s fidelity what else can or should anyone expect. It seems that his radio station and talk show is wholly and solely dedicated for promoting lies. He has absolutely no conscience consciousness or morals. These are just plain lies just to give the impression that things are worse than it seems. The UPP needs to show a united force in order to rebuild confidence because in my opinion they have lost a significant amount of popularity
