Leader of the Opposition Jamale Pringle has addressed mounting public curiosity about the official announcement of candidates for the United Progressive Party (UPP) ahead of the next general election. During a recent interview, Pringle assured that while the formal announcements have been slightly delayed, the party’s processes are on track, and candidates will be revealed in a phased manner soon.
Pringle clarified that most of the party’s constituency branches have completed the ratification process for their candidates. He emphasized that the delay in announcements for the final few constituencies arose from unforeseen circumstances but assured supporters that the rollout would begin shortly.
“People know who their candidates are, and our caretakers have been actively working in their constituencies,” Pringle said. He praised these individuals for their dedication and commitment to serving Antigua and Barbuda, highlighting the sacrifices they make in the face of political victimization and challenges.
“We’ve been blessed as an organization to have these brave and selfless individuals willing to contest and serve at the highest level. In a time when people are often hesitant to step forward due to the difficulties of electoral politics, these candidates have shown tremendous courage,” Pringle stated.
The opposition leader also expressed his hope that the public would support the UPP’s slate of candidates rather than engage in tearing them down. “As a country, we should applaud and uplift those who are willing to put themselves in uncomfortable situations for the sake of nation-building,” he remarked.
Recent online discussions have speculated about the delays in the UPP’s candidate announcements, with some questioning whether the party would meet its earlier timeline for unveiling its slate. Pringle addressed these concerns, reiterating that the party remains focused on ensuring its processes are thorough and transparent.
Pringle commended the individuals who have stepped forward to represent the UPP, emphasizing that their dedication to community and country is a testament to their character. The UPP leader urged patience from supporters as the party moves closer to its official rollout of candidates.

TOO MANY LIES, EXCUSES, DELAYS, DENIALS AND BS!!!!
It’s critical to present a solid slate of candidates with clear messaging and positions. Voters deserve more transparency and certainty well in advance, especially with the election fast approaching
UPP Leader’s explanation about the unforeseen circumstances delaying the candidate announcements is understandable, and it’s reassuring to see that the party is taking time to ensure the right individuals are chosen. However, it’s becoming increasingly important for voters to have clarity on the candidates and their platforms ahead of time. The delay raises concerns about readiness, and I hope the party can make these announcements soon so that the public can make an informed decision.
“…the party remains focused on ensuring its processes are thorough and transparent.”
NOT ACCORDING TO JERMAINE EDWARDS!
Hold it down tight Leader Pringle. What’s their rush to know UPP plans.
It is apparent that the UPP is diligently attempting to secure some runners, not winners. Even their current MPs are now at an impasse with the leadership. That can only spell disaster for the furtherance of the party. I such them well.
