St. Peter By-Election: General Council Ratifies Wehner as UPP Candidate

The United Progressive Party (UPP) has formally ratified George Wehner as its candidate for the upcoming St. Peter by-election, set for January 14, 2025. The announcement was made following the General Council’s decision, solidifying Wehner’s place in the contest for the vacant seat.

Confirmed and Prospective Candidates

  1. George Wehner (UPP):
Officially ratified by the UPP’s General Council, Wehner brings extensive political experience to the race. As the party’s Mobilization Officer, he has built a reputation for advocating accountability and transparency, which are expected to be focal points of his campaign.
  2. Rawdon Turner (ABLP):
The Antigua Barbuda Labour Party (ABLP) has expressed its intent to field Senator Rawdon Turner as its candidate. Turner, a seasoned legislator and Deputy President of the Senate, aims to focus on development initiatives for the constituency.
  3. Nigel Bascus (Missing Link Voice of the People):
Bascus has expressed his intention to contest the by-election under the Missing Link Voice of the People banner. A veteran political figure, he plans to prioritize youth advocacy and will soon unveil his manifesto.
  4. Owen “Go Green” George (GO Green Party):
Owen George has declared his candidacy on behalf of the GO Green Party. His campaign will center on environmental sustainability and green development, key tenets of his party’s platform.

Nomination Day and Election Outlook

Nomination Day, set for December 31, 2024, will confirm the full slate of candidates. While four candidates have so far declared their interest, additional contenders, including potential independents, may enter the race.

The by-election, triggered by the death of former MP Asot Michael, is expected to be a closely contested race as the candidates vie for the opportunity to represent the St. Peter constituency. Voters will head to the polls on January 14, 2025, to decide their next representative.

  1. It seems the UPP presently exist in a reality that is all of their making.
Whenner is not a proper candidate. He was hand selected by Giesle Isaac and Jamal Pringle. They are reacting to a caught with their pants down moment. Whenner is a poor candidate. He is as abrasive as a grater grating sand paper.

As a member of the party I am embarrassed. Peter Reds should have been left there. He is young, it is his community. He has a future. Whenner has none.

As long as UPP members allow Gisele to call the shots, the UPP like Whenner will have no future.

  2. “…is expected to be a closely contested race”

BTWN GO GREEN AND MISSING LINK! Yes.

  3. From the start when upp chose peter redz I think it was a bad choice, his deportment does not convey good etiquette to the youths, and doesn’t portray upp as serious in the public eyes, just as it is now Pringle doesn’t inspire leadership confidence in the population, Richard would have caused more cohesiveness to bring out the shuggy effect.

  4. NOT ONLY WEHNER IS A LOST CAUSE BUT THE UPP IS NOW TOTALLY LOST. Perhaps they will come to that realization after the next general elections.

  5. @Eldread you are absolutely correct. The blindness that is affecting the UPP is their major problem. A cohesive party behind Richard Lewis would have been the way to go. Pringle is a good guy but not even a cohesive party behind him can take the UPP over the line. The UPP after the last general elections was on the upswing. Now the UPP needs to find its footing by making the bold decisions that can save them. I am very disappointed in Baldwin Spencer and especially Harold Lovell for being so weak and lacking in serious political thinking and vision.

  6. King Lyadd Lovell Limpy Joe IMF Pimp lacks the TESTICULAR FORTITUDE to reign in the CHAOS DEMON 😈

He helped to create that monster, now he can’t tame um
