  6. I will admit that the catalyst to many of the departures and resignations (as well as Gaston Browne’s unseemly interventions) was when the UPP didn’t appoint the Honourable Richard Lewis as leader.

    A real missed opportunity for the party.

    Without a shadow of a doubt Antigua & Barbuda is heading towards a one-party state.

    Many ABLP supporters seem happy for this to happen, but for a democratic country like ours, it’s the death knell for one and all living here.

    Anyway nothing wrong with a one party state. Democracy doesn’t mean you need to have several parties. It means the majority rules. It could be the majority in the party. This two party system has not worked for us anyway. When one is building up, the other is breaking down. Just like what you are constantly and consistently doing. You cannot find anything good in what Gaston and his administration is doing. And that is BAD politics. That is why the UPP is losing ground. Be honest to yourself and to others and when something is good, say so, and when you think you can do it a better way, lets hear what it is you have to say.     1), NO need to respond to any Freedom of Information Acts

    2), A non existent opposition means the ABLP can pass any untoward legislation as they see fit

    3), Voter APATHY will increase nationwide

    4), Cost of living will continue to spiral out of control

    5), There will be a financial “migration” of the wealthy and middle classes

  24. At the rate that UPP is hemorrhaging its critical for the leadership to undergo some critical evaluations. If people are leaving so rapidly then it begs the assumption that they may not see any viable future in UPP. Nobody who joins a political party sets their ambition on remaining in opposition.

    It’s quite clear that these fallout stemmed from the very divisive leadership convention that took place, which can sometimes occur. However, inquiry minds would ask what has the elected political leader done to reduce those divisions and what has MP Lewis (who lost his bid for leadership) done to soften the divisions felt by his supporters.

    From the outside, it seems that the Opposition leader has taken a stance that who don’t want to accept his reign of leadership can go while vice versa, MP Lewis have taken a stance that let the party implode since he wasn’t elected leader so that he can become king of the ashes and rebuild the party. Neither of both positions taken will help our democracy.

    Many people may not notice but there is clearly a subliminal fight to prove who is the better leader taking place. MP Lewis with his open statements (granted some are quite timely and relevant) on national issues which often should come from the political leader but subtly embarrasses the role of the political leader. Then you have the political leader who attempts to carry out his role but is met with a diminishing confidence from the populace due to the pseudo-leadership role that MP Lewis have been able to subconsciously implant in individual’s mind.

    Moral of all what is said, “two kings can’t rule one country”.

    Let’s get it right in the name of our democracy or risk taking a weak opposition into the next polls.

    6), Ongoing lack of financial clarity and transparency in regards to CIP, NAMCO and YIDA

    7), whatever happened to the missing Africans, Haitians and Indians in Antigua? Where dem is?

    8), Self-enrichment

    9), Cronyism

    10), Lobbying by the destructive Hoteliers of our protective mangroves

    None of the above concerns the ABLP supporters at all, but the resignations or desertions by former UPP members and associates gets them writing in their droves.
