REAL NEWS: The hype is coming to a climax for the United Progressive Party’s “Relief and Recovery” Rally slated for tonight, November 17, at the famous Thwaites Corner.
George Wehner, UPP Mobilization Officer, is inviting residents to come out to the traditional political stomping ground and hear the Candidates expound on the Party’s plans to move the country forward.
He says the rally will begin promptly at 8 p.m.; however, as is the norm, there will be a pre-show.
In addition to the UPP Candidates, Wehner says that representatives of the Barbuda People’s Movement (BPM) will be on the platform, since there are many issues affecting the sister-island.
Accordingly, he says this rally is not one to be missed.
In the meantime, the Mobilization Officer says that traffic along the lower section of All Saints Road, and the junctions at Thwaites Corner, will be closed this afternoon to accommodate setting up for the meeting.
Therefore, drivers are advised to plan their route to get back home this evening, since there will be traffic disruptions in that area.
Wehner says the rally will be broadcast via a wide cross-section of the Party’s social-media platforms, as well as on Progressive FM and Observer Radio.

ST. JOHN’S, Antigua, Dec. 24 — A magistrate on Wednesday charged an opposition legislator with murder in connection with a scuffle that led to the shooting death of a woman, the legislator’s lawyer said.
The legislator, Sherfield Bowen, was formally charged with murdering Tessa Barthley, said his lawyer, Dane Hamilton. Mr. Bowen was not required to enter a plea.
Ms. Barthley, 22, was shot in the neck on Dec. 16 at Mr. Bowen’s office. The police said Mr. Bowen’s gun went off during a scuffle. Ms. Barthley was put on life support but died Tuesday of a heart attack, hospital officials said.
Mr. Bowen was a member of Parliament and a former member of Antigua’s governing party.

Included in the statements made by the FBI were references to at least three occasions on which Ashe was involved in the passage of large sums of money to Antigua politicians, including then Prime Minister Balwin Spencer and then Minister of Finance Harold Lovell. Those reference date back to June 26, 2012 and continued to July 26, 2014.
The FBI agent testified that during that period there were at least two payments – US$100,000 and US$170,000 – to Spencer, and indication of an attempt to or a payment to Lovell, whom Ashe described as “a high school classmate of mine,” who “would facilitate establishment of offshore banks.”
