UPP Reaffirms Support for CARICOM’s Zone of Peace Declaration

The United Progressive Party (UPP) has declared its full support for the Caribbean Community’s (CARICOM) stance that the region should remain a Zone of Peace.

In a statement issued Tuesday, the party said it “cannot support or condone any action that might compromise that position,” adding that peace and mutual respect are fundamental to regional stability.

The UPP noted the long-standing relationship between Antigua and Barbuda and the United States, as well as the friendly ties with the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela.

The party highlighted the cooperation and initiatives that developed between both nations during its previous administration.

Reaffirming its commitment to peace, the UPP said it will continue to promote harmony among Antigua and Barbuda, its Caribbean neighbors, and international partners.

“Let there be peace,” the statement concluded.

The release was signed by Political Leader Hon. Jamale Pringle, Chairman Dame D. Gisele Isaac, General Secretary Sen. Shawn Nicholas, and Treasurer Leon George.

  1. Colombian prosecutorial documents revealed over 75 high-ranking Venezuelan officials and military personnel linked to the “Cartel of the Suns” (Cartel de los Soles), a network named after the sun insignias on Venezuelan generals’ uniforms. This group allegedly facilitates drug shipments, using military vehicles, airports, and ports for export to the U.S., Europe, and West Africa.
