Police Officer Granted Bail Pending Appeal in Gun Case
A police officer serving a one-year prison sentence for discharging a firearm in public has been granted bail by the High Court.
Justice Stanley John on Monday approved bail for 37-year-old Karim Warner, following an adjournment to allow his attorney to present the legal authorities supporting the court’s power to grant bail rather than deferring the matter to the Court of Appeal.
Warner was convicted and sentenced on 1 October by Senior Magistrate Ngaio Emanuel for unlawfully firing 12 rounds near Emerald Cove Resort, Willikies, on 3 December 2023, during a dispute over a leased vehicle.
Evidence presented in the Magistrate’s Court indicated that Warner used his Lexus to block another vehicle, ordered the occupants out, and opened fire, striking the car’s rear door, trunk, and front wheel. The female passenger testified that she was so terrified she lost control of her bladder.
Warner claimed he was defending his property, but Magistrate Emanuel ruled that firing a dozen rounds was “highly excessive.” He broke down in tears after hearing the verdict.

This is the hypocrisy about justice in Antigua. Others have been jailed for possession of a firearm ,but a policeman actually firing 12 shots unlawfully at a vehicle, was found guilty ,but now is on bail pending appeal court hearing. What kind of message this sends to society. No wonder they can kill so many people unlawfully and get away with it. “Nothing last forever”.
I think most of u ppl that are commenting needs to do proper investigation and get better understanding before you open your mouth they are both wrong .it could have all been avoided if the driver that rented the ride had returned it.they are both wrong and should be charged. Society needs to stop be one sided and look at the evidence to come to a great conclusion that is fair
Small voice**** u sound like a bigger jack ass with that comment. Shots being fired at people is a much more serious crime. If the driver tried to run him over he had all right to shoot. But none of that was mentioned. The driver had a right to hold on the leased property since it wasn’t the police officer he leased the vehicle from. Was the vehicle stolen???

Regardless if the driver right or wrong why waste government bullets on a situation like that? Dude it’s 108 square miles ur a flipping Police u make a call and that’s that.. All now the person if wrong would be charged and he has his job…
What if he would have hit the gas tank and the car would have exploded? He already blocked off the road with his car, I don’t think it was necessary to use his firearm and as an officer of the law he supposed to know when and where to use his firearm….. 🤨 I really hope when he appeal he gets a harsher sentence…… nonsense. He want to be wrong and strong and believe he is above the law when he is supposed to uphold the law 😡🤬

Do he finally got bail? The system has never amazed me more. Yet a young Jamaican man was sent to jail over stealing a cellphone. He wasnt granted bail. Guess what happened to him. HE DIED!!!! Someone killed him in jail.

Straight shooter, what is wrong with with this guy on bail pending the hearing of his appeal ? What is wrong with the justice system in Antigua ? Everything that happens there goes according to Law. He made a first attempt to secure bail pending his appeal and the Judge denied saying that only the appeal court can grant him bail. His lawyer then brought up new arguments and pointed to the Judge under whst section he has the power to grant him bail pending his appeal and the Judge agreed. Thst have nothing to do whether he is a police or not. Others who are in prison for similar offenses have the same rights to appeal their sentences if they think they were badly treated but they didn’t so stop poisoning the public mind and blaming the justice system. What could happen in his appeal sentencing if found guilty, they might give him the maximum jail sentence. I believe it was a bad move to appeal. He should serve his time which is very short. He was provoked by the person who have his property without his consent but he choose the wrong way to deal with it.
Some of us belch hot bubbles when it’s not ours involved. The court system is there for all. Higher the proper attorneys and you will be able to work the system to your benefit.

Maybe the appeal has some merit, but it still doesn’t sit right. Officers should be held to higher standards, not lighter ones.
