Unveiling Mirie’s Magic Recipe Box

Miriam Samuel a 90-year old author, affectionately known as Grandma Mirie, is headed to the U.K. for the second leg of her “Legacy Book Tour.”

She will promote her book “Mirie’s Magic Recipe: Loving, Leading, Legacy” at a number of events in London, Leceister, Essex and Wales.

Before embarking on her tour, Grandma Mirie met with Sir Vivian Richards, Antigua and Barbuda’s only living national hero. She presented him with her latest creation, “Mirie’s Magic Recipe Box.” This specialty package includes a copy of her book and a range of agri-products — jams, jellies, wines, teas, breads and essential oils — made from produce grown in her backyard. This new package designed to “nourish the mind, body and soul,” will be launched in the U.K. as part of the Black History Month festivities during the month of October. This national celebration aims to promote and celebrate the contributions of African and Caribbean descendants to British society and to foster a better understanding of Black History.

“I want to connect with my readers on a deeper level by engaging all of their senses. Whether it’s tasting local flavors that evoke memories of their grandmother’s kitchen, or smelling the natural fragrances of my essential oils and soaps. They can follow my journey through the pages of the book, while enjoying products that evoke a sense of nostalgia,” said Grandma Mirie.

This will be Mirie’s 9th trip to the U.K. She will receive the “Extraordinary Award” at the Caribbean Global Awards on September 28th. She will also participate in a cooking demonstration with award winning Anguillian chef, Kerth Gumbs, at Fenchurch Restaurant in London. In October, which is celebrated as Positive Aging Month, she will attend a luncheon to commemorate “Aging Well in Wales.” This festival of events and activities honors the contributions that older people make to their communities.

To celebrate U.K. Black History Month, Mirie will make a presentation at the Wesleyan Holiness Church in Leicester on October 13th. The theme will be “Caribbean Folk Medicine for the Mind, Body and Soul: Nourishing All of You.” Mirie will share her vast knowledge of local herbs and the medicinal properties that have been handed down as part of Caribbean culture. She will also promote some of her products, including a line of nutritional supplements that addresses many common ailments.
