Unpaid Wages Plague SunEye Security Services
SunEye Security Services, one of Antigua’s leading private security providers, is under mounting scrutiny after workers alleged prolonged non-payment of wages, sparking wider questions over government oversight and the company’s management.
Employees have reported going months without salaries, leaving many struggling to meet basic living expenses. Several claim that when they pressed for answers, they were either dismissed or met with hostility. Concerns also extend to statutory deductions, which some workers allege have not been paid on their behalf.
“This has gone on for too long,” one employee told local media. “We risk our lives daily providing security, yet we cannot depend on timely pay.”
The government previously seized SunEye’s contracts in late 2024 and early 2025 following complaints from staff. Although the firm has since regained some contracts, the persistence of wage disputes has raised questions about whether the company is mismanaging funds or if government arrears are partly to blame.

Officials have not confirmed whether outstanding government payments are owed to SunEye, leaving uncertainty about the source of the financial breakdown.
Labour experts say employees could pursue complaints through the Department of Labour or seek union representation. Legal options, including action through the courts, also remain open. Meanwhile, critics argue the government should step in directly to ensure compliance with labour laws and protect the welfare of security staff.
The controversy underscores wider concerns about the conditions faced by security personnel in Antigua and Barbuda. As the government continues to rely heavily on private contractors for public and institutional security, questions remain over how to guarantee workers are paid fairly and on time.
For now, SunEye employees remain in limbo, waiting to see whether their demands for long-overdue wages will be met.

According to our Prime Minister, who keeps extolling that Antigua & Barbuda is an “economic powerhouse”. Yet, there’s not a month that goes by when we hear of public (as in the recent case of our teachers) or private sector employees not receiving the wages they have worked hard for.
Even pensioners and others relying on Social Security payments have issues receiving their money on time – if at all!
IS NOT BEING PAID ON A REGULAR BASIS, MAKE US AN ECONOMIC POWERHOUSE BECAUSE THESE SALARIES ARE BEING “INVESTED” ELSEWHERE?
