PM Browne speaks at Global Citizen concert

The Ambassador to the United Nations Aubrey Webson says the planned June 1, 2019, United Nations Anti-Plastic Concert will be held.

The international concert is scheduled to be held at the Antigua Recreation Grounds.

Antigua and Barbuda was invited by the President of the U.N. General Assembly, late last year, to host the Anti-Plastics Concert, given the country’s steps to remove plastic bags, single-use plastic cutlery, plastic cups and plates, Styrofoam containers and other disposable plastics, from the environment.

The government said two other states agreed to provide funding to meet portions of the costs associated with putting-on the concert, which will bear the imprimatur of the United Nations.

Thousands are expected to travel to Antigua in order to attend.

A concert-planner, working on bringing well-known and outstanding artists to participate in the event, also was consulted a statement from Cabinet said.

“Several artistes were deemed unacceptable by the U.N. Committee; others are well-known on different continents but may not be known by many in Antigua. At any rate, the U.N. allows for free participation by the invited artistes, though expenses for the artistes and their entourages must be met by contributors,” the statement added.

  1. Don’t get rid of all the plastic bags…save one Fu Gaston pyuk Inna!!!… from last nights Tsunami Landslide Vote BPM give he nausea!!!..🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

    • International is not regional and that is why these politicians does not u derstand . Somebody always looking to make one dollar extra

  2. It would be interesting to know (i) who would have nominated these artistes that were deemed unacceptable; and (ii) who were these artistes!!

  3. I wonder how many of the same said disposable plastics and Styrofoam articles they are trying to ban will be used at this concert. That includes bottled water and sodas.

  4. Great move from our PM to put Antigua and Barbuda in the center of the spotlight in the entire world. This tiny little Island will be known all over the world and all eyes will be on us. No amount of money would be able to do that type of marketing for us. Now it is on us to keep the country clean when the visitors are here. I trust the minister of Health to undertake the largest cleanup ever in the history of this country. And let the authorities enforce the litter act. If Singapore can do it, we sure can too.

    • It’s sad our leaders trying to fool the international community. This concert is about the saving of the environment, what a fast, why I say this our government has given a Chinese company permission to destroy the north south marine area and it’s mangroves. The UN is condoning a rogue administration. We will be picking this concert to let the world know, they are not dealing with an environmental friendly administration. They are all about getting monies, under the guise of been environmental friendly.

  5. Wasting money on concerts and partying when a simple TV advert would have had more impact. What are they expecting to happen?…the music starts and all the plastic dances its way out of the Sea?.
