Loop News  – The United Kingdom’s High Commissioner to Barbados and the Eastern Caribbean has confirmed that Antigua and Barbuda passport holders currently do not need to apply for an Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA) or a visa to enter and transit through British ports of entry.

High Commissioner Scott Furssedonn-Wood gave the assurance when he met Antigua and Barbuda Prime Minister Gaston Browne last week.

The High Commissioner to Barbados and the Eastern Caribbean assured PM Browne that despite circulating reports, the global implementation of the UK’s Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA) system has not yet started.

Its global rollout will start in October, with Antigua and Barbuda’s at a yet-to-be-confirmed date in 2024. Resident Commissioner Ms [Lindsy] Thompson reassured PM Browne the British High Commission will give advance notice of the rollout date,” the High Commission in St John said in a statement.

The confirmation from Furssedonn-Wood follows speculation that the UK would remove Antigua and Barbuda and other Caribbean countries with Citizenship by Investment (CBI) programs from their visa-free travel list similar to what happened with Dominica and Vanuatu.

Last month, UK Home Secretary Suella Braverman told the House of Commons that Dominica and Vanuatu were removed from the visa-free list after an examination of their CBI programs had “shown clear and evident abuse of the scheme, including the granting of citizenship to individuals known to pose a risk to the UK”.

Any decision to change a visa regime is not taken lightly and we keep our border and immigration system under regular review to ensure it continues to work in the UK national interest”.

The UK and European Union previously indicated that they will be taking steps to remove countries with CBI from their visa-free lists due to concern for their national security.

The Caribbean CBI countries recently met with the EU to discuss their programs and they assured that their vetting processes are transparent and safe.

  1. When Antigua get the confirmation from either the UK’S Prime Minister and/or their Home Secretary then I’ll BELIEVE IT, but until then I remain very sceptical, especially as until yesterday, I had NEVER heard of Scott Furssedonn-Wood.

Gaston Browne always accepting the words of the underlings, and not from the top!

Actions speaks louder than any rhetoric …

    • @Brixtonian…. Do you even understand how diplomacy works? You speak about not accepting the “words of underlings” and never hearing of Scott Furssedonn-Wood. You should have done a bit of research about the role of an ambassador before uttering verbal diarrhoea.

Ferssedonn-Wood is the official representative of the UK in the Eastern Caribbean, and he would have been given certain instructions BEFORE taking up his post. In making his rounds to the various counties in the Eastern Caribbean, he would be relaying the message that was sent from the VERY TOP of the British government. If he says that a particular stance is the policy of the British government, then IT IS SO.

Do you think this is some cartoon the gentleman is involved with? For your information, the British government has no time, appetite, nor desire to be involved in petty politics that you and others seems to wallow in.

      Get a grip you worm!

      • Again, I’ll wait until I hear it from the horses mouth and not from anyone who hasn’t the power to do otherwise.

SIMPLE ENOUGH FOR YOU BOTH @ WASH AN’ BASIN AND @ QUESTION?

        Thought not!

    • Hope you know that the politicians would not be affected. Again, your continuous opinions indicates that you must be having nightmares about GB. Behaving in a moronic manner shows the levels of stupidity that are in your life.

      • Some say moronic, and others say INDEPENDENT and CRITICAL thinking.

People pick, and then take their choices. No problem 😁

  2. Even with whats good Brix tries to spin it bad. Are you a bitter person in real life putting the politics a side. How is your personal life with YOURSELF?

    • What has anyone’s opinions got to do with their personal life?

Do tell, you ignorant fool and a half!

      • I wish I could meet you in real life. You are such a sad person. How do you rest at nights with all that hatred. Seriously how do you?

        • Life is great, and thanks for your interest.

My only REAL bugbear is having an ABLP government that has had more than enough time to have made Antigua & Barbuda economically strong, especially after 40 years of Birdism and Browneism.

          YOU SOUND HAPPY WITH THAT!

by the way, I’m doing just fine @ Question, but I would love to see more of my fellow Antiguans benefit as well – and it will only happen when Gaston Browne has gone.

          PATRIOTIC AND PROUD … 🇦🇬

  4. The UK form is ETIAS , the ETA is the form for Canada entry and ESTA is for US entry. You have to amend the name you have in the article

  5. I don’t know why the British, Europeans and the USA play with these slave plantation mentality islands rogues!? The best thing for those Western Countries to do is either sanction these rogues or recolonise these islands if they want to be safe and make the World a safer place, cause the only place I see fit for these islands rogue leadasses, it’s a bottomless pit!!!
