UK-based company secures cannabis license

Antigua Agronomics, a locally registered company whose principals are based in

the United Kingdom, has received its certificate from the Medicinal Cannabis

Authority, to operate in the medicinal cannabis sphere that is now being developed

here in Antigua and Barbuda.

Chief Executive Officer Ashley King, said the license grants his company the right

to cultivate cannabis, and extract the oil from the plant for medicinal use, both

locally and for export.

“We are aiming to become a global supplier in the medicinal cannabis market. We

are happy to have received our certificate, and we wish to thank everyone here who

helped us along the way,” he stated.

King said both he and his team have been traveling to and from the country over

the past several years, and there are plans to assist the country beyond the areas of

medicinal cannabis.

“We will be constantly contributing towards improving the country’s agricultural

sector, we plan to train young farmers in the aquaponics sector, as well as offer

assistance in the area of health,” he added.

The company will also be providing employment opportunities to at least a dozen

people when it begins operations here over the next several months, according to

King.

Another director, Richard O’Brien, described the operation simply as, ‘from seeds

to finished products’ such as oils, that will help in the care of cancer patients and

others with pain management issues.

Antigua-born Dwight Ateba Henry who is originally from Bolans, but who now

resides in the UK, also serves as a director of the company. (POINTE XPRESS)

  1. A UK based company?!?!

I knew the ABLP couldn’t care less about the autochthonous Antiguans.

Gaston ‘Marvellous’ Browne continues to promote us in the “subservient” hospitality sector, because he thinks that’s all we REALLY good for.

He can’t even give the rasta dem a leg up in any business venture (and remember, he told everyone how much he love and respect them).

The UK’S economy is tanking and dropping like a stone, and the ABLP is backing them more than his own. Wow!

How did Antigua & Barbuda end up with someone who says one thing and then NEVER delivers?

  2. Ashley King, Richard O’Brien, Dwight Ateba Henry! What’s your professional background? Who has the money that the top dawg sniffed? What is your experience in the medicinal Marijuana field?
Please do not DUPE the government of Antigua and Barbuda.

  3. What is the name of the UK base company again?
Please do not DUPE Gaston Browne

  4. Is it a UK based company with a member of parliament have share in? Is it the same individual that have a farm ?

  5. Marijuana is now the agriculture sector- it replaces food production/ food security. All, not 90 % , not 95 % , not 99% , 100% of the weed grown in Antigua are available to our youngsters for smoking. All the government care about is someone flashing a few dollars to them . Especially under the table – so which of you government minister has shares or getting dividends above or under the table. Since the so call decriminalization of marijuana, which is now more like the legalization since people are walking around with spliff in their mouths like cigarettes, even on market street. We are having an increase in youth violence, dropouts and gangs – delinquency. Go into a dressing room of a soccer or cricket team and 10 out of the 11 players stink of weed .
There is no social program attached to these Licence. No counseling to our youth in drug prevention, since it has been proven that many move on to harder substances. In fact one of our medical doctors attached to this area said recently that many of our youth are mixing marijuana with other drugs. This was not the case before this so call decriminalization. I guess it could be one way to keep our population subservient is to keep them and their children, especially the young men delinquent.

    • @Frankly Speaking…’Speaking,’ “truth to power” will definitely carry more weight, when one has the statistics to assert their claim or assumption.
It’s no doubt, that you’re assuming and projecting what will happen due to the decriminalisation/legalisation of England he hemp plant(the one with a higher concentration of THC). You are not speaking from a position which is factual, regarding the youths, since, if this was the case, Antigua, Barbuda & REDONDA along with the rest of the Caribbean would have HUEmans dropping like dogs who are #strychnine lased pork or those who’re being fed, we’re fed OPIOIDS by the Pharmaceutical Companies.

As a statistic how many users of HEMP and it edible byproducts are…
      1…victims, of an overdose?
2…given other synthetic drugs to relieve them of the stresses caused by opioids?
3…victims of poisoning, as in alcohol poisoning?
4…developing various forms of cancer like the foods which many people consume

As for combining the THC from HEMP with things such as cocaine, tobacco or other synthetics it’s the individual and not the product that makes these decisions. It’s in the same vein as OBSITY where education and personal choices comes into play.

While observation is educational in itself, Ohservation alone dues not take a #Theory and make it factual.

  6. The way the Hemp Industry is being structured, it’s not to put the majority of the profits in the pockets, of those who suffered under the draconian system of laws governing the Hemp plant.

The HEMP Industry MUST be treated established whereby, the license to grow is removed from the equation. This means iif you have the ability to grow and want to grow, grow as much or as little as you choose.

The #licensing of companies should be for the quality control, processing, marketing, distribution. The INDUSTRY will be able to be set up like the Cotton/sugar cane Industry with policies and guidelines to benefit #ALL and not just a few.

Dear god’s, I’m digging THREE(3) graves, one for me, one for The SCAMPS of the ABLP SCAMPISH GOVERNMENT, #WHO’RE in charge of the Cannabis Industry, the other grave is for my #fren_a_me!
Dear god’ let their wickedness, the end result, of the air that they breath consume them like fire.
    They’re some dirty fuckers!

  7. Question to Brixtonian.
Would you happen to know the name of this UK based company?
What is the company’s line of business in the UK?
    When was this business established?
Sorry, I have to pose my questions to you Brix.
People who wants good for Antigua and Barbuda would like to know.

      • It could be a pharmaceutical company called Eco Equity based in London, but, you can’t get access to their current website – which is a bit disturbing!

Hopefully, our ABLP government has done the necessary due diligence (If it is in fact Eco Equity), however their previous record of doing so doesn’t fill critical thinking Antiguans like me with any confidence!!!

Brixtonian always dealing with the FACTS, the whole FACTS and nothing but the FACTS …

  8. All well and good but where do you go from there. Though the industry has seen significant improvement, particularly around legality, in many countries, it continues to face many challenges and Antigua would be no different.
Legality and regulation will continue to be key forces driving the industry as different countries . approach the use and sale of cannabis and cannabis products differently.
Banking will continue to be a challenge because cannabis companies all over the world cannot legally access traditional banking services. And if you cannot use the traditional banking sector like every other business, it makes doing any commerce impossible. Finally, I do not know if the small man would be allowed to grow and sell cannabis to such company which means that small growers would not really benefit in any way.

    • @Audley Phillip…the naysayers are concentrating on the percentage of THC in the HEMP, HEMP, HEMP plant and is missing the bigger picture of the HEMP INDUSTRY. The word ‘cannabis’ with its psychoactive THC is not the entire picture of the HEMP FARMING INDUSTRY. The industry touches the construction industry with Hempcrete, hemp-blocks. The food industry oils to flour.
The fashion and cosmetics with the finest of silk to the heaviest of canvas. Agriculture where hemp revitalises the soil by slowing erosion. The military still use hemp products from uniforms to oil(does not break down like fossil fuel oils).
You’re making the same argument from decades ago with little research or information.
Over twenty States in America have legalized the HEMP Plant and its by products .
As for banks not accepting funds from the HEMP INDUSTRY, please tell us, any financial institution(s) which have being sanctioned or fined for doing business with the HEMP INDUSTRY. In addition, crypto currency does not discriminate against using their form of currency.

The nattering nabobs are using the same talking points by spreading FEAR.

In the case of the Caribbean, not just Antigua, Barbuda & REDONDA, with great soil and weather to grow the industry are failing the “small growers” because, the policy makers only listen to the CAUCASIANS when it comes to HEMP INDUSTRY and they’re screwing the “small man” royally with a stingray Lance.

Do some research and find out the combined uses of the billions of tons of the Volcanic Ash in Montserrat and the HEMP Plant. It would help to solve the infrastructure(curbs to sidewalks to drainage columns) problem which is currently making Antigua look like…..
