The U.S. government shutdown is disrupting regional air travel, with two flights bound for Antigua and Barbuda among thousands cancelled across the United States.
An American Airlines service from Miami and a JetBlue flight from New York’s JFK Airport were grounded on Saturday, stranding passengers and forcing last-minute changes for hotels and resorts on the twin-island nation.
The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has ordered airlines to scale back operations at 40 major airports as air traffic controllers and other staff work without pay. More than 1,000 flights were cancelled and 5,000 delayed nationwide.
Analysts warn that flight reductions could reach 10% by mid-November, potentially disrupting the start of the Caribbean’s winter tourism season.
Antiguan tourism officials say they are monitoring developments and offering flexible rebooking options to affected visitors.

Al least the hotels making money. That’s a silver lining
And the Rocket scientists in Dadli still insist that investing social security scarce funds into a very vulnerable fickle hotel is a genius idea.
@ Melchesidec,
Only recently they ease up blaming everything on Covid, now they have a new buggy-man to blame.
There immediately reaction for now is to.”Is to monitor developments and offering flexible rebooking options to affected visitors.”
What the public has not been told is any meeting or outcome either hotel owners.
They are issuing statements they own the airlines and hotels so they csn make those decisions.
People don’t realize how much a U.S. shutdown can affect small islands like ours one canceled flight can mean hundreds of empty hotel rooms
This couldn’t come at a worse time for our tourism sector. The start of the winter season is when we really depend on consistent arrivals.
COVID didn’t teach them nothing. Antigua and Barbuda still has Tourism as the MAIN industry while destroying Agricultur. Why? Still investing almost all our money in Tourism while greater possibilities are there. When will they learn. All educated dunces in power
This is going to hit tourism hard if it continues. The ripple effect on small economies like ours can’t be ignored.
