A U.S. federal indictment alleges that politicians along the so-called “Caribbean route” were corrupted by cocaine traffickers to allow large drug shipments to move north toward the United States, placing the region within a transnational trafficking network tied to Venezuela’s ruling elite.

The superseding indictment, filed in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York, accuses Nicolás Maduro and several current and former Venezuelan officials of participating in a decades-long conspiracy to traffic hundreds of tons of cocaine into the United States through the Caribbean and Central America.

According to the court filing, cocaine shipments were dispatched from Venezuela using maritime and air routes, with traffickers relying on transshipment points across the Caribbean basin.

The indictment alleges that traffickers paid politicians along the “Caribbean route” for protection from arrest and to permit favored networks to operate with impunity as drugs moved north.

Prosecutors say Venezuela’s geographic access to the Caribbean Sea made the country a strategic hub for narcotics trafficking, with large ports and coastlines used to launch maritime shipments toward regional transshipment points before onward movement to the United States.

The indictment further alleges that corruption linked to cocaine trafficking spread beyond Venezuela, enriching political figures at multiple stages of the supply chain while strengthening violent criminal and narco-terrorist organizations operating across the hemisphere.

U.S. authorities emphasize that the charges are allegations and that the defendants are presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court. Maduro and members of his government have previously rejected similar accusations as politically motivated and without merit.

The case forms part of a broader U.S. effort to target international drug trafficking networks that prosecutors say exploit weak institutions and corruption across key transit regions, including the Caribbean.

  1. Why didn’t America target 🎯 Mexico, Columbia, Brazil etc. This whole false rhetoric is just about Venezuela’s oil 🛢️. I am not saying that drug trafficking weren’t taking place but, the crusade is about getting Venezuela’s Oil 🪔. Our politicians are very corrupt but, America needs to show up with the paperworks and money trail evidence 🧾.Our present Caribbean leaders are a bunch of greedy, gullible set of vagabonds. I hope that all their overseas bank 🏦 accounts are frozen, until they can explain the sources.

  4. America has been watching and waiting to wrap these crooks up like a Trini roti and serve them to their vultures.

  5. The longest rope has an end.Call the names and EXTRADITE them to the USA for TRIAL.Those politicians who are involved would not be able to MANIPULATE the corrupt JUDGES in the CARIBBEAN COURT.
The UNITED STATES OF AMERICA need to INVESTIGATE CARICOM SECRETARY GENERAL and the GOVERNOR OF THE EASTERN CARIBBEAN CENTRAL BANK.

  6. A lot of people going to fall for this nonsense. America! Please! This was the same – US of A – who said Venezuela oil belongs to America. You all really trust information coming from that place? For the next couple of days/months there will be a lot of name shaming – False accusations and the list goes on. Now, here comes the opposition jumping on board running with anything that may seem to be linking Antigua in a negative way. No evidence pure aligation. Expect the opposition to jump on board. Wait for it.

  7. Antiguans have short and shallow memories. Who remembers that it is Baldwin Spencer who was a special friend of Venezuela and Chavez? Who remembers that he called Chavez in the middle of the night and begged for $45 million? Who remembers that of that US$45 million only US$43 million was accounted for? Who remembers that it is Baldwin Spencer who joined ALBA when the organisation was formed by Chavez? Who remembers?

  8. I think at this point it is safe to say that the US will just about say anything (without proof) to justify their actions.

Drugs travel all around the world and is also manufactured in the US. For the “mighty” US, you mean to tell me that with all the technology that you possess that you cannot catch them when they arrive in the US. Instead of making allegations that you know that you are not going to prove, how about telling your Border Protection folks to do their jobs and stop accepting bribes to allow the same drugs into your country.

America the eyes of the world are now wide open and we can no longer be fooled.

  9. @Not fooled….Yawns….The US fooled the world into believing they sent men to the Moon 1969 – 1972……The cellphones in our pockets today has more technology than the systems that took LMAO men to the Moon….They went to the dangerous vacuum of space past the dangerous radiation belts that surrounds the Earth with Scientific Calculator technology…..Can your believe that??? Are your fooled??

  10. the issue here is Venezuela is moving closer to China. China has been successful in their efforts to create closer ties with Venezuala and the country is selling cut price oil to China. This is how we need to view the recent US regime’s attack. As a side issue, we should note China’s increasing influence in Antigua. Time for the US gangsters to invade Antigua?

  11. I don’t need to wait for the US intelligence to come out for me to know that corruption is all across the Caribbean and across the world for that matter.
In fact, I know many of the players..it’s right in front of you folks.

Many things are correct here and are correct at the same time. Yes the US wants to control the oil as much as China or even Russia.
Yes there are no perfect system in this world.
Yes the drug argument could be made for any latin American country or China for that matter.
But one thing we cannot deny here, is that your PM is deeply involved in all this and have failed Antigua in his capacity as PM.

While all this mayhem is going on, we could have came out of this golden, but instead we are left with nothing.. Maduro is gone and our relationship with the US is severed.
We have nothing to show for anything..so who’s fault is that?

So go back to the most important thing here.
How are we as a small nation going to go forward and build back those relationships?

Well the way forward cannot be a PM who is compromised..he and his foolish advisors are the ones who didn’t advocate properly on our behalf, instead they got rich and are now bailing.
Sanders is gone, and many others are keeping silent, except for GB who will be left to hold the bag.

Remember folks. ” There is no honor among thieves”.
That has been a concept from the beginning of time and cannot be beaten.

  12. Now that Maduro, alleged narco leader, has been arrested, we re gonna see a dramatic drop in drug consumption in the US right? no? no?
    Okay, I out!

  13. I hope the politicians in Antigua and Barbuda are not involved…please, Lord, let it not be! Our small country cannot handle another scandal.
