Minister of State and Leader of Government Business in the Senate, Senator the Hon. Shenella Govia, and Minister of State, Senator Clement Antonio, have been reassigned to new ministerial portfolios within the Government of Antigua and Barbuda.

Effective Monday, 12 October, Senator Govia will assume the role of Minister of State in the Ministry of Housing and Works, following her tenure in the Ministry of Education, Sport and Creative Industries.

Meanwhile, Senator Clement Antonio, who formerly served in the Ministry of Housing and Works, will take up duties as Minister of State in the Ministry of Education, Sport and Creative Industries, with special responsibility for the Antigua and Barbuda Festivals Commission.

Prime Minister the Hon. Gaston Browne noted that both senators — among the youngest currently serving —are being given new reassignments as part of the Government’s rotation policy aimed at broadening their experience and strengthening the governance framework.

The appointments were made under the authority of Section 69 (4) of the Constitution of Antigua and Barbuda, which empowers the Prime Minister to appoint ministerial offices other than that of Prime Minister, with the Governor-General issuing the formal instruments of appointment.

  1. What this ABLP government has described as a routine “rotation” within the Ministry reeks of corruption, cover-up, and political damage control.
The people of Antigua and Barbuda are not fools, You don’t ‘rotate’ staff in silence unless you’re hiding something. This looks less like an administrative shuffle and more like a desperate attempt to move the corruption around instead of rooting it out.
The nation deserves to know the real reasons behind this suspicious shake-up.
This government believes it can sweep corruption under the rug with a few quiet transfers, but Antiguans and Barbudans have had enough. Every dollar stolen from public works is a dollar stolen from our children’s future.
Silence will only confirm what the people already suspect, that corruption has become the heartbeat of the Gaston Browne administration.
