Two people dead after two planes collide mid-air in Arizona

INDEPENDENT UK- Two people are dead following an airplane crash at Marana Regional Airport in Marana, Arizona.

A Lancair and Cessna 172 collided mid-air around 8:25 a.m. in an uncontrolled field, meaning the airport does not have an operating air traffic control tower. Two people were on board each of the small fixed wing single engine aircraft when they crashed upwind.

The Cessna landed uneventfully, while the Lancair impacted terrain near an airport runway and ignited. Police have not yet released details about the victims.

In uncontrolled fields, pilots use a traffic advisory frequency to announce their position to other pilots in the area. The pilot-in-command is responsible for maintaining safe separation from other aircraft.

Additionally, they’re required to comply with Federal Aviation Administration regulations, including minimum visibilities, minimum safety altitudes and right-of-way rules.

The FAA and National Transportation Safety Board are probing the incident, with the NTSB leading the investigation, a spokesperson said, adding an investigator is due to arrive Thursday morning.

The Marana Police Department also responded to the crash. Local officials are due to hold a briefing on Wednesday afternoon. The Independent has contacted the police department for more information.

Marana is 15 miles northwest of Tucson in Pima County.

North American cities have experienced a series of fatal aviation accidents within the last month. Most recently in Arizona, a pilot identified as 78-year-old Joie Vitosky died on a private jet owned by Mötley Crüe frontman Vince Neil. The plane veered off a Scottsdale runway and hit a business jet.

In late January, an Army Black Hawk helicopter and an American Eagle regional jet collided over the Potomac River near Washington D.C., killing all 67 people on both aircraft. There were 64 passengers and crew on board the commercial flight and three soldiers in the helicopter.

A day later, a medevac jet crashed in a Philadelphia neighborhood killing all six people on board and a man in the street who was in his car when the plane struck. The aircraft had been transporting an 11-year-old girl and her mother after the child received treatment at a city hospital.

  1. It’s quite simple really. Just like covid did a sneak attack in December of 2019, there has been a sneak attack on navigation systems thru magnetic / micro waves.

Just like hairloss, we will explain away the first set of shedding. Then we are, you guessed, BALD.

Planes had mishaps every couple of months, sure…. especially cargo and single engines. Miles Monroe, Aaliyah, Kobe, the list is long. But between December and February 18 (52 days), please see it for what it is.
And no, it’s not not pilots being nervous in the sky because of comments like mine. It’s a different type of pandemic. It’s radar-itis. And it’s man made. Death rate 89% , r0 is low for now. Survival is 90%.

It’s not over-reporting, it’s not exaggerating of incidents by the media, it’s more. It’s CRASHES. REAL LIFE CRASHES!!

I will still fly this month cause by May31, maybe I just won’t be able too. It’s a dam big gamble but life must go on.

  2. Mi mudda….anoder one….dem mishap ah mek joke wid people life.
    Condolences to the bereaved.
Seriously though, we have not had not one of these investigations finished and there are four or five more. Yet still the crab louse firing people left right and centre from these departments. The clown giving him permission and most people are just like it’s another day.

  3. @We are at WAR. We thought you were making progress here at Clarevue but after your escape and now writing here on ANR, we were mistaken. Not to worry, the authorities have been notified and will collect and return you to the hospital to continue receiving care for your psychiatric disorders. Everything will be ok.
