The Ministry of Finance announced to the Cabinet that it has paid for two additional fire engines to be stationed at the V.C. Bird International Airport.
It has also entered into a contract with providers to re-supply quantities of foam required for fire engines at the airport.
The engines and the supplies will reach Antigua in approximately six weeks, or by the end of January 2020.
A recent fire at the airport caused a major scare although it was quickly brought under control.
It is not certain whether the decision to purchase the new engines is as a direct result of the tarmac fire.
