Two men remain in hospital after being shot during an attack in the Collins area on Tuesday evening.
Police say 25-year-old Matthew Rose and 46-year-old Byron Cross were walking along Collins Road at about 7:30 p.m. when they were approached by two masked men, who opened fire before fleeing.
Rose was shot once in the back, with the bullet lodging in his abdomen, while Cross sustained a gunshot wound to the right cheek.
Both were taken to Sir Lester Bird Medical Centre, where they are listed in stable condition.
Officers have not released a motive for the shooting and say no arrests have been made. Investigations are continuing.
Police are urging anyone with information to contact them or Crimestoppers.

Our Detectives are not equipped to handle most of these cases, hence we will continue to find a number of these murders and attempted murder cases go unsolved, and if by some chance a quick arrest is made, I guarantee when it reaches the courts we end up with a delay. The other day, they found a somewhat decomposed body in a vehicle, looking back i think during a carnival celebration, a body was also discovered in a car between Boy school and Grammar school, was there a result? do you honestly think we will hear anything further? and if it’s a murder, do you think the knowledge and skills is there to find and bring these murderers to justice?
I’m relieved they are in stable condition, but mentally and emotionally this kind of trauma never leaves. Their families will never forget this night. Violence like this destroys more than just bodies.
What hurts the most is knowing this could have been anybody, your brother, your son, your neighbour. Collins, Grays, All Saints, everywhere facing the same thing. We need serious solutions. We need serious policing. Political drama is becoming more important that citizens lives
Prayers for Matthew and Byron. Nobody deserves to be shot just for existing. Whoever did this needs to be brought to justice before another family is left grieving.
