Tropical Storm Philippe’s Erratic Path Raises Flash Flood Threat for Leeward Islands

NHC – Tropical Storm Philippe, currently moving erratically in a west-northwestward direction, poses a significant threat of heavy rain and flash flooding for the Leeward Islands.

Located at 16.2N 58.8W, approximately 170 miles east of Guadeloupe and 220 miles east-southeast of Barbuda, Philippe sustains maximum sustained winds of 50 mph.

Its present movement is west-northwest at 7 mph. The storm is expected to pass near or just northeast of the northern Leeward Islands on Monday and Monday night.

Philippe’s impacts include tropical storm conditions, rainfall of 4 to 6 inches in Barbuda and Antigua, and 2 to 4 inches in the rest of the Leeward Islands, possibly leading to flash flooding.

Life-threatening surf and rip currents are also expected along the Atlantic coasts of the northern Leeward Islands, the Virgin Islands, and Puerto Rico.
