Trinidadian Faces June Court Date Over Antigua Cannabis Charges

A Trinidadian man accused of cultivating and possessing cannabis in Antigua will return to court on 30 June after his case was postponed.

Andre Solomon, 44, appeared before Magistrate Ngaio Emanuel on Monday, but proceedings were adjourned due to the absence of his lawyer, Andrew O’Kola.

Solomon faces multiple charges following police raids on 30 April and 7 May, which uncovered a total of nearly seven pounds of processed cannabis and 790 plants at properties in Pares, Parham, and Hodges Bay.

He is currently out on $50,000 bail, which includes a $5,000 cash component. Under his bail conditions, Solomon—who holds a visitor’s permit valid until July—must report to St John’s Police Station twice weekly and check in with Immigration every Wednesday.

The case was previously under Magistrate Dexter Wason, who initially granted bail before it was transferred to Emanuel’s court under District B jurisdiction.

  1. Ooh, there is so much undercurrents to this story. How many visitor’s permits has he been granted prior to this? Is there a nexus between this story and another Trinidadian story? How can he, a visitor have access to do many different properties? Didn’t any of the property owners have any idea of what was going on inside their properties?
There seems to be more in the mortar than the pestle.

  2. What’s with all these Trinidadian Ganga growers residing and engaged in this illegal activity. The immigration department needs to provide answers!!!!

  3. @Joan, you’re absolutely right. I’m not sure who writes these press releases—or worse, how they get published without proper review. You’ve raised the kind of basic questions that anyone paying attention would ask. As it stands, the article leaves the reader more confused than informed. #ANRDoBetter

  4. The missing Trinidadian Altar Boy worked for him and this illegal farm. The PM has already addressed this and the fact that the missing Trinidadian Altar Boy not only worked there but left Antigua illegally twice. This whole operation has been under surveillance for months. Google and see the PM’s spanking of the new T&T Foreign Minister.
