Trial Set to Begin in Killing of Customs Officer Nigel Christian

ST. JOHN’S, Antigua — More than four years after Customs Officer Nigel Christian was shot and killed, the three men accused of his murder are set to stand trial on February 18 before Rajiv Persaud.

Christian, 44, a senior customs official, was abducted from his McKinnons home on July 10, 2020, and later found dead in the Thibou’s area with multiple gunshot wounds. His killing sent shockwaves across the country.

Police later charged Lasean Bully of Cashew Hill, Wayne Thomas of Hatton, and Saleim Harrigan of Greenbay with murder in April 2021.

The case has faced repeated delays, including several adjournments in the All Saints Magistrate’s Court, before being committed to the High Court assizes in January 2023. Further postponements pushed the arraignment to January 2024, when the three men pleaded not guilty before Justice Ann-Marie Smith.

  1. Hallelujah, and praise the Lord our God. At last!

This is one of the high profile cases that I’ve been talking about that has taken way too long to come to court. Let’s also hope that Nigel’s family witnesses a fair trial where justice is truly served.

And hopefully, the other Half-a-dozen or so outstanding criminal trial cases will also come to court this year.

Also, bringing forward the trials of the horrendous murders of Chantel’s and Asot Michael’s are next on the Attorney General’s agenda.

  2. Wow!
Four years to come to trial?
    Jesus, Mary and Joseph..
    What took so long?
    Mr.pompei?
    You know everything else,
    Eh, why???

  3. Because of the constant public accusations against the sitting ALP government concerning mysterious killing of Nigel , the ALP has stayed their hands in the court interference through the DPP.

  4. Gaston you must be mad.
Law and Order is a disgrace in Antigua and Barbuda. This is such an egregious crime, where does one begin.
As a black man in the USA at least should I meet such an unfortunate end, the world would know what was the motivation.

Three individuals assuming they know each other. What would have Nigel Christian have done to them individually or collectively?

What is the evidence? How did the police and the DDP determine they are the murderers?

What are the motives behind kidnapping and killing Mr. Nigel Christian?

Were these three men hired hands/ killers/murderers?

Where is the local press? Have they too have been bought off?
    Where are the Ecumincals?
Where is the Law society ?
    Where are the Civil Society?
Why would I wish to live in such a country?

  5. Anytime big names are to be called, they delay the case and confuse the general public.
Anytime names are to be called in anything, you have, no investigation, slack supervision of the case, people go free after waiting on trial for lengthy delays, hush hush by the AG.

Dwayne George collecting goods at the port for his corrupt friend, no investigation.

But when no big names on their side are involved, you have speedy trials and people getting jailed lickety-spit.

Just look at their pattern. They are one corrupt bunch. $15mil in car theft, no investigation, Africans came in illegally, no investigation, alpha Nero money scam, no investigation, hurricane relief money missing, nada, zip,
But as soon as they think that Pringle did something to their APUA cables, quick and fast investigation. Shuggy winning his seat fair and square, but they find big money and time for investigation.

Bunch a damn crooks..no wonder Antigua ain’t nowhere fast anytime soon.

  6. For years, this case has just been sitting there unfinished, unresolved, like an open wound. Families don’t get closure while the system drags its feet. Lives stay stuck in limbo while time keeps moving for everyone else.

  7. Let’s hope that the former comptroller of customs Badu is called to testify under oath!
Let’s hope Freeland the former auctioneer is called to testify under oath.
Let’s hope Mary Claire hurst is called to testify under oath.
Let’s hope Telemaque is called to testify under oath.

  8. @Islanman26 you hit the nail right the head!

The high echelons in Antigua society who misbehave, have their court cases delayed or dropped for “insufficient” evidence. But the low hanging fruits like us, who find themselves in trouble are normally fast tracked into court, and then into prison. Go figure?

Yet, you only have to look across the pond to witness how the Epstein paedophile ring, to witness how the rich, the infamous and the politicians are being protected from prosecution, despite the plethora of overwhelming evidence from photographs, emails and even the female victims themselves who were used and abused; and are still being ignored to this day.

The so-called pillars of society are thankfully now being exposed for all the world to see…

  9. I would only believe there is a trial, when it actually begins. This has been dragged out for far too long.
