(Antigua News Room) Prime Minister Gaston Browne called on the MP for Barbuda, Trevor Walker to apologize for recent comments he made during an argument with a Peace, Love and Happiness (PHL) official.
During the verbal exchange, which was captured on video and circulated on social media, Walker can be heard saying “a white man telling me that”.
When the official called him out on his comments, Walker who was visibly upset replied: “I was born racist! You are not going to come here and behave so stupid. I can understand if you said five and I brought 10, I can see your quarrel, but two extra persons?”
The argument began when seven members of the Barbuda Council tried to enter the Palmetto Point construction site but were only granted permission for five to conduct their investigation.
During the heated exchange, Walker also told the official, “You are ridiculous, you are f–king ridiculous. Put that on the tape too.”
“That is unbecoming of a Member of Parliament.”, Prime Minister Browne said on Friday while speaking at a joint-handover ceremony at the Barbuda Pentecostal Church, where MP Walker was present.
“I am perhaps the most controversial politician in this country but I know where to draw the line and I’m calling on the Member for Barbuda, in this Honourable house, to apologize to the Barbudans and also to the Antiguan people for that type of behaviour.”, the Prime Minister insisted.

I agree that Mr Walker should not have used the racist team, under any circumstances, but at the same time… Mr PM, you have had a few gaffes yourself.

Prime Minister Gaston Browne cannot really be serious in criticizing the behaviour of Trevor Walker. Even to the blind and deaf in Antigua and Barbuda, his criticism is tantamount to the kettle calling the pot black. Please Mr. Prime Minister you have said so many things that are unbecoming of a Member of Parliament and even worse Prime Minister. You really should not have commented on this matter.

On the other hand Trevor Walker is on tape for calling Barbudans all sorts of names in church. He called the lazy, fornicators, backstabbers and all sort of bad names. If anyone should apologize to the Barbudans it is Trevor Walker. But you guys would like to pretend that that never happened. But it is recorded and can be replayed anytime.
When I learned about this emotional outburst and use of filthy language, I agreed immediately that he needs to apologize, and I did NOT vote to PM Browne. Truth is truth! At first I wondered if this guy is “all there”? Somebody said he’s a born again Christian. Stop the nonsense! That is not the behaviour of a born again Christian. By their fruit ye shall know them, and this guy’s fruit smells rotten. This guy needs to get to the altar and do some repenting. IF he belongs to a church, obviously he should be disciplined, maybe even read him out for awhile.
Gaston Browne is a hypocrite on this one. How can he criticize anyone for behavior unbecoming of an MP when he himself has essentially very recently called PM Ralph Gonsalves a “liar”, PM Baldwin Spencer an “antyman” (during campaigning many years ago on an ALP stage for which he had to apologize), he has branded many people to be “economic terrorists”, he has accused Mia Mottley of “subversion” and much, much more. Hypocrisy of the highest order!

Anything that was said about Barbuda inbreeding which was brought in the public by the health minister is a medical fact. Because of the smallness of the society their is a real health concern that has to be address. They are at the point now that almost everyone in some fashion is related. So if you are not careful and date another islander it may be your 1st or 2nd cousin. And we have seen it during election time that votes are strictly along family lines which represent party line. And the manner in which they qualify a person to be called a Barbudan also encourage this inbreeding. An Antiguan who is born in Barbuda is not considered a Barbudan unless his/her parents are Barbudans. While in Antigua anyone born in the Island of Antigua is an Antiguan.
So, when Gaston last year called the Canadian Scotia Bank executive a jackass, was that behavior that we should expect from a member of Parliament?

Not at all, cause Gaston Browne doesn’t have any monopoly on nothing in Antigua. He is a self made millionaire who has always been an active business man even before he entered politics. Trevor on the other hand has used his position as council member to gain sole agency of the importation of oil and gas to Barbuda. The same way that Rappaport was able to set up the WIOC deal by being the sole importer of Oil and Gas in Antigua and Barbuda. So Trevor’s case is a perfect case of enriching yourself because of the position you hold in politics. And so strange the very projects he is against in the end have to purchase gas and fuel from him. And he would not like it when Barbuda goes over to green energy. We need to break his monopoly. And if WIOC has a tight sign contract with him, it needs to be challenged in court. Antigua and Barbuda is a unitary state and therefore you cannot say that you have a monopoly in one part of the island. That just cannot work. Every Antiguan and Barbudan should have the right to set up shop in Barbuda.
