Traveling Couple Shares Their Hitchhiking Diary, Vows Not to Return to Saint Lucia Due to Aggressive Tourism

A globetrotting couple, known for documenting their adventures on their popular hitchhiking diary, recently shared their experiences from Saint Lucia, expressing their disappointment with the aggressive tourism industry on the Caribbean island.

The couple, who were captivated by the stunning sight of the Pitons, revealed that their initial excitement was dampened by the persistent and forceful attempts by locals to sell them various goods and services upon making landfall.

“Seeing the Pitons for the first time was incredible, but when we made landfall, people tried to quite aggressively sell us stuff and couldn’t take a ‘no thanks’ for an answer. So the aggressive tourism industry on the island made our stay not that enjoyable,” the couple shared in their hitchhiking diary.

The Pitons, two iconic volcanic peaks rising dramatically from the Caribbean Sea, are a UNESCO World Heritage Site and a major tourist attraction in Saint Lucia.

However, it appears that the pushy sales tactics employed by some locals have left a negative impression on these particular travelers.

The couple highlighted that their encounters with persistent vendors significantly impacted their overall experience, overshadowing the natural beauty of the island.

Despite the breathtaking landscapes and vibrant culture, the relentless sales approach seemed to have soured their stay.

While the travelers acknowledged the challenges faced by locals in the tourism industry, they emphasized the need for a more balanced and respectful approach to engaging with visitors.

The inability to decline offers without facing persistent pressure left a lasting mark on their perception of Saint Lucia.

As their hitchhiking diary gains traction among fellow adventurers and travel enthusiasts, the couple has made a firm decision not to revisit Saint Lucia in the future.

In the Caribbean they’ve also said they won’t revisit the USVI and Antigua. The latter being for the expense of everything there.

  1. Human beings no matter what the colour of their skin do not like aggression. Sometimes in our desperation to become successful, we are aggressive. Every human being deserves to be treated with respect. Our plight in this life mst never allow us to loose our humanity my peoples. If we loose our humanity, our success will a!ways be fleeting and not permanent in this life.

Dis you read the paragraph above, ‘In the Caribbean they’ve also said they won’t revisit the USVI and Antigua. The latter being for the expense of everything there’.

This is awful and shows the plight of most Antiguans living from hand to mouth under this economic ”poor house”. Things bad now hell inna Antigua, dam.

  2. The Caribbean is not interested in hitchhiking tourists – tourism is our only industry in most islands, and we expect our energies to be paid for. No advertisements encourage hitchhiking – they may come at their own budget but should not expect red carpet.

  3. Tourism is the mother of all wicked in a rotten society.

Look the trends after SOME is open and is LINK into this spamming society. With the smile from various, tears drops from many.

  4. Why the continuous posting of this cheap ass couple, who can’t even afford a decent hotel? Notice the islands mentioned, top tourist destinations even the USVI that’s loaded with largest cruise ships daily. Wadadli was just awarded a number of top ten and best this week so who the hell cares if this two stay away from the Caribbean? You expect to visit these parts, hike all over and not one aggressive merchant pops up? Please! How about spending some real money.

    • I concur. They need to get lost. At that rate, I don’t think they will visit anywhere in the Caribbean again because they will find fault with every single country. Dead broke hitchhikers.

You can bark from now until the Kennel is opened, Antigua is extremely costly, stink and unsightly with all the rubbish as a result of the lack of resources needed to provide basic services. This is as a result of the rampant corruption in the land including the ‘misallocation of $1,000,000.00 of Barbuda hurricane relief money.
      You guys have no gall.

  5. Well this only makes you wonder why it is ANR thinks this couple’s opinion is worth publishing. We in the Caribbean know what our Islands have to offer. If you want to hike go to Guyana or Suriname. You may get lost in the jungle but you will have a blast. Mother nature in that paradise is just beautiful. Years ago when I was a young man I spend some time in the interior in Guyana. And I can tell you, at first it was scary, but later you get used to being one with mother nature. No contact with the developed world whatsoever. Two weeks with the Amerindians gives you a different look on live. This make me wonder what has become of these tribes, these days, with the exploration of oil in the interior of Guyana. If this will not disturb the peaceful life of these people. But then again it’s all about the money. Just like the Barbudans peaceful life is being disturbed.
Our Islands beauty offers Sun Sea and Sandy Beaches. Lucky for those Islands that have a bit of forest to boost about. But nothing to compare with the amazon forest. Mankin will always destroy nature for economic gain.

  6. Where do these tourists visit where the vendors r NOT aggressive?😳 Safe to say they won’t visit NYC, London, Rome or paris again too

  7. I am pretty sure you visit where they are from and it’s filled with filth and trash. These two people are some bums looking for 5 star treatment on beer money. I also agree on why should their opinion matter when multitude of people come to Antigua and revisit. I am currently working in the US and I have my flag on my computer and people ask me if I’m from Antigua and state how they enjoyed their time there and how beautiful it is. When I was flying to the US to work I met a family of 6 who said they will come back and it was their first time. Why in the world would you publish trash and how in the world there were so called Antiguans agreeing with these two cheap people agreeing and talking bad about the country u supposedly live in and love so much. If you don’t love Antigua then bang water and go some place else. If these people would have gone to JA and cry down JA, you would see JA people going after them even though JA people know how JA is. Antiguans have no pride in their own country and want to make everything political, what a true shame to agree with these wazungus.

  8. Then again!!! It’s that photo of the couple that makes me lol. These ppl look clueless and destitute.
Influencers my arse. Influence for the geeksquad maybe. Lol
