Tourism Week Begins with “Tourism Blast Off” and Service of Thanksgiving

Tourism Week officially got underway on Saturday, November 22nd, with the highly anticipated Tourism Blast Off at the Rising Sun Grounds; an extraordinary cultural celebration that signaled the start of the Winter Tourism Season. This year’s event was the biggest and most vibrant Tourism Blast Off to date, drawing an enthusiastic crowd who hailed it a tremendous success.

The evening was packed with outstanding performances that highlighted the depth of talent across Antigua and Barbuda. The crowd was thrilled by musical showcases from the Schools’ Panorama Champions, the Villa Primary School and Christ the King High School, the young pannists delivered impressive renditions that set the stage on fire. The Junior Soca and Calypso Monarchs also captivated the audience with their energetic performance

Entertainment continued with dynamic appearances by Showtime Productions, Lyrical Redz, Lyrics Man, Pandemonium Steel Orchestra and Halcyon Steel Orchestra, Xxplosive Band, Venom X alongside Soca Villian and Island Prince, as well as Young Vice and Kaution Band Intl. From start to finish, the day was a true celebration of culture, creativity, and community.

Minister of Tourism, Civil Aviation, Transportation and Investment, the Honourable Charles Fernandez, speaking at the opening event, emphasized that tourism includes everyone and the signature event is intended to highlight the best talents and the best cuisine of the country.

On Sunday, tourism partners joined officials from the Ministry of Tourism, Civil Aviation, Transportation and Investment for the annual Tourism Week Service of Thanksgiving at the Kentish Pentecostal Church. Apostle Dexter Laurence delivered an uplifting sermon and offered heartfelt prayers for the continued growth and success of the tourism industry. The service was a meaningful reminder of the unity, gratitude, and shared purpose that underpin our tourism sector.

Tourism Week continues tomorrow, November 25th, with Charity Day, when the Ministry and its partners will donate much-needed food packages and essential supplies to four charitable organizations across Antigua and Barbuda. This initiative reflects our ongoing commitment to giving back and supporting the communities that form the backbone of our nation.

As Tourism Week unfolds, the Ministry extends its gratitude to all partners, performers, and attendees who continue to make these events remarkable year after year.
